This is one of the better explanations of the emotional and moral status of many of our Leftist brethren:
A human being devoid of the ability to empathize or sympathize with others is a moral monster. We label people like this as sociopaths because we understand that there is something fundamentally wrong with them.
As vital as empathy and sympathy are, though, they carry a great danger. Emotion unanchored by a moral sense can lead to much harm. There is vast moral chasm between empathizing with the victim of a serial killer and the serial killer himself. And it is possible to over-empathize with others, to subordinate yourself to the emotional weather of other people to such a degree that your own emotions and feelings get dulled or even lost…….
…..For the left, empathy and sympathy often eclipse morality entirely. It’s not a cliche to say that most leftists are governed by their feelings, for this is observably the case. To most of the left — becoming more pronounced the further left ideologically you go — the moral sense is atrophied to near-uselessness. The left has come to view morality with a deadly kind of skepticism, a postmodern cultural-relativist suspiciousness that shrinks and shrivels the moral sense. Empathy and sympathy reign supreme. To a person of the left, “right” and “wrong” exist not as moral poles, but as emotional ones: what’s right is what feels right, in the moment.
But when decision-making is driven by in-the-moment emotion, consequences are often ignored. We see this all the time from “activists” on the left. They act without thinking of the consequences, which are often harmful to the very people they claim to want to help. They are governed by their passions.
Good for Hobby Lobby – one of my FAVORITE stores in the world!
Today, Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a privately held retail chain with more than 500 arts and crafts stores in 41 states, filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, opposing the Health and Human Services “preventive services” mandate, which forces the Christian-owned-and-operated business to provide, without co-pay, the “morning after pill” and “week after pill” in their health insurance plan, or face crippling fines up to $1.3 million dollars per day.
“By being required to make a choice between sacrificing our faith or paying millions of dollars in fines, we essentially must choose which poison pill to swallow,” said David Green, Hobby Lobby CEO and founder. “We simply cannot abandon our religious beliefs to comply with this mandate.”
Come on Obamacare supporters—usually the same people that believe government should be out of the womb, God out of the schools, and Christian symbols shouldn’t be seen by the general public—explain to us why Christians in this country should be forced to support and pay for abortion against their religious values…
Go ahead. Explain it within the context of religious freedom and the dangerous over-reach of government that our Founding Fathers believed, espoused, and lived by.
It is by God’s grace and provision that Hobby Lobby has endured,” said Green. “Therefore we seek to honor God by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles. The conflict for me is that our family is being forced to choose between following the laws of the country that we love or maintaining the religious beliefs that have made our business successful and have supported our family and thousands of our employees and their families.”
By God’s grace I pray that Obamacare and its founder, Obama, are overturned and turned out, respectively, in about two months.
While perusing the internet this morning, I found a great collection of quotes from Obama over the last several years. It just takes a read through them to understand that this is a President who should never be included in the next edition of “Our Quotable Presidents” or “Great Americans in Their Own Words.”Just this weekend, Obama declared……..
“We can create a million new manufacturing jobs in the next four years, because we’re selling goods around the world stamped with three proud words: Made in the USA.”
At least Obama’s poor math is consistent….He can’t count words and he can’t count how many fewer people are employed now compared to when he took office.
So here is a greatest hits of Barack Hussein Obama quotes:
“I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.” — Barack Obama
“You got into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” — Barack Obama
“Junkie. Pothead. That’s where I’d been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man. Except the highs hadn’t been about that, me trying to prove what a down brother I was. Not by then, anyway. I got high for just the opposite effect, something that could push questions of who I was out of my mind, something that could flatten out the landscape of my heart, blur the edges of my memory. I had discovered that it didn’t make any difference whether you smoked reefer in the white classmate’s sparkling new van, or in the dorm room of some brother you’d met down at the gym, or on the beach with a couple of Hawaiian kids who had dropped out of school and now spent most of their time looking for an excuse to brawl. …You might just be bored, or alone. Everybody was welcome into the club of disaffection.” — Barack Obama
As Sen. Hillary Clinton was preparing to campaign here today, Sen. Barack Obama was meeting with voters at a diner and apparently pretty hungry.
“Why can’t I just eat my waffle?” he said, when asked a foreign policy question by a reporter at the Glider Diner. — Barack Obama
“The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn’t. But she is a typical white person…” — Barack Obama
“You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a (flag) pin. Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for, I think, true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest…” — Barack Obama
“And if that child should ever get the chance to travel the world and someone should ask her where is she from, we believe that she should always be able to hold her head high with pride in her voice when she answers, ‘I am an American.’ That is the course we seek. That is the change we are calling for.” — Barack Obama
That last one there, I think, is disgusting and is quite in sync with the view that Dinesh D’Souza outlines in his blockbuster documentary 2016: Obama’s America. A part of that view, paraphrased, is that ‘America is bad as she is and that America needs to be knocked down a notch or two in the world….then everyone will see the goodness in America.’

I am speaking most specifically about the behaviors of those on board and those in charge.
We have a leader that, it appears, did everything possible to preserve his own backside, while he willfully allowed passengers to fend for themselves and, for some, to die.
We have citizens on board who, from some accounts, seem to have taken the “every man for himself” attitude quite literally.
It was 100 years ago this year that the Titanic sank. From many accounts of that event, the evacuation mostly included women and children, the captain went down with the ship and many men died in order to save their families.
This year, in a similar disaster, we have reports of men racing to the front to get on the lifeboats, pregnant women forced to stay onboard, and the captain leaving ship while others are evacuated.
There is a report that the captain was “showboating” and was too close to the shore which may have caused the entire disaster.
In a time when our political leaders, like the captain, have abandoned their principles and what is best for our country, and many citizens have soaked in the class warfare of “what’s yours should be mine”—-can we really be surprised at the behavior of people on a sinking ship?
Blogger Pundit and Pundette says it out loud on a recent blog post: “What a difference a century makes“.
Men refused to prioritise women, expectant mothers and children as they pushed themselves forward to escape. Crew ignored their passengers – leaving ‘chefs and waiters’ to help out. [. . .]
‘I was standing by the lifeboats and men, big men, were banging into me and knocking the girls. It was awful. There was a total lack of organisation. There was no one telling people where to go.
‘And when we finally got into a lifeboat, people, grown men, were trying to jump into the boat. I thought, if they land in here we are going to capsize.
And the captain abandoned the ship and boarded a lifeboat while the evacuation of 4200 people was underway.
In a translation released by Reuters, Gregorio De Falco, the port captain at Livorno, is heard ordering Schettino – who said he was in a lifeboat – back to the Costa Concordia:
Coast Guard: “Listen Schettino, there are people trapped on board. Now you need to go on your life boat, under the bow of the ship on the side. There is a ladder. You need to climb up the ladder and board the ship. Get on board and report to me how many people there are. Is that clear?. . . .
“Schettino: “At this moment the ship is tilted.”
Coast Guard: “I understand. Listen, there are people who are coming down the ladder on the bow. Go back in the opposite direction, get back on the ship, and tell me how many people there are and what they have on board. . . . Tell me if there are children, women and what type of help they need. And you tell me the number of each of these categories. Is that clear? . . . Listen Schettino, perhaps you have saved yourself from the sea but I will make you look very bad. I will make you pay for this. Dammit, go back on board!”
Schettino: “Please . . . “
Although, the CBS News article says the captain may not have acted as heinously as it first appears, one still has to wonder about the character of a captain who leaves the ship while thousands are still aboard.
Still yet, their the report that the entire accident may have occurred due to “showboating” that the captain apparently approved:
The cruise operator has said Schettino strayed from the ship’s authorized course into waters too close to the perilous reef.
The nautical version of a “fly by” was apparently a favor to the chief waiter who is from Giglio and whose parents live on the island, local media reported. Prosecutor Francesco Verusio called Schettino’s maneuver “reckless” and “inexcusable.”
But, perhaps, all is not lost. From the CBS News article:
Corriere della Sera also reportsthat the crew mutinied, ordering passengers into lifeboats before the captain issued an abandon ship order.
And the captain has been arrested and faces potential charges of manslaughter.
What a tragedy for the families affected by this catastrophe….and a tragedy for society.
You can listen to the just released 9-11 air traffic controller tapes.
They bring back a few memories of the day, but always worth remembering the events and people of that day!
