While Obama swims about in class warfare on a daily basis — “tax the rich”, “pay your fair share” — most of us are tired of hearing the same old worn out lines. Obama is a redistributionist with big government policies. Obama believes that your income is the government’s money first and you get what they say you can keep. They also use “the rich” in order to stoke jealousy and class warfare. If you can soak the rich further on taxes while increasing the numbers of those who don’t pay taxes, a politician is able to increase his votes from those who get handouts from the government.
It’s a carousel ride of political aims, not benevolent ones.
Elizabeth Warren, running for the Massachusetts Senate seat against Scott Brown (R), crystallizes the politicized and communal view of the Left. She actually engages in class warfare while trying to prove “taxing the rich” meme isn’t class warfare. Video here.
“I hear all this, you know, ‘Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever. No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own — nobody.
“You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police-forces and fire-forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory — and hire someone to protect against this — because of the work the rest of us did.
“Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea. God bless — keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is, you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”
The words of this woman are breath-taking in their ignorance and anti-capitalist meaning.
- “You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for.
Aside from the fact that Warren seems to think the roads came first and we are all existing on the backs of some mythical societal infrastructure….The job creators and owners of the factory paid vastly more for those roads than “the rest of us”. Job creators did not create anything on the backs of others. As has been proven over and over, “the rich” pay the vast majority of taxes in this country. Those who built that factory paid more than “the rest” in order to build those roads.
Roughly 50% of earners pay no income taxes at all. So who is using the roads that someone else paid for? I suppose, using Warren’s base example, the truth is that at least half of “the rest of us” are using roads we didn’t pay for.
As another blogger, MarkAmerica, wrote, “Do you understand her claim? She is saying that society enables people to become rich. This is a lie. If society enables people to become rich, why aren’t we all rich? Why?
Warren’s statement is typical class warfare and grossly ignorant in its content.
- You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police-forces and fire-forces that the rest of us paid for.
Same issue applies as above. Half paid nothing. “The rich” paid heads above the others. She lies.
Again with Warren’s example….Those workers (and, similarly, first responders), of whom only 50% pay income taxes, are able to pay those taxes only because of the those who built the factory, who now hire those educated by taxes paid by “the rich” and the 50% of “the rest of us”
- “Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea. God bless — keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is, you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”
So business now has a “social contract” that says work hard, pay more than your share of taxes, and then pass along a HUGE hunk of your earnings and success to the GOVERNMENT….for the next kid who comes along?
Why on God’s green earth would I expect that the fruits of my labor, in the hands of this government, would be responsibly passed onto the “next kid”?…..Particularly when that same government has proven $14 Trillion times over that they have no track record of being responsible with my money and have actually put Americans in debt to the tune of $15,000 for EACH family or $90,000 for each worker?
Gee, wouldn’t it work better to have a “individual contract” that says if I work hard, hire competent workers, pay them fairly, pay my share of taxes, and generally succeed in my business….well, then I’ve already contributed to society and have great experience to “pay forward” as advice to the next generation…so they may also succeed.
I guarantee you the values and experience of a free market businessman will not put the next generation in debt, as the government has done, but rather richer!
Perhaps more important in refuting her silly statements is that those who built those businesses have risked their own capital in order to produce those jobs. What did “the rest of us” do? We sought the jobs at those businesses where the entrepreneurs risked their own money. Oh, and if the business does not succeed, will Warren bail out that business? No. (ie Obama might if it means campaign cash, but I digress.)
The Elizabeth Warren’s of the liberal world have forgotten that they serve Americans, not the other way around.
They’ve also forgotten that our system wasn’t built so that the government can micromanage the economy and determine winners/losers and what is “fair”. We are not a commune. Our strength lies in God-given rights, individual freedom, and the efforts of those individuals.
While Scott Brown has fallen out of some favor with me, I hope Warren and her ignorant anti-capitalist views are defeated in the Massachusetts Senate election.
Nations crumble from within when the citizenry asks of government those things which the citizenry might better provide for itself.
