You could call me one of the biggest college football fans around….but even I understand that my country comes first….too bad Obama and Congress don’t understand that…
Everyone from President Barack Obama on down to fans has criticized how college football determines its top team. Now senators are getting off the sidelines to examine antitrust issues involving the Bowl Champion Series.
The current system “leaves nearly half of all the teams in college football at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to qualifying for the millions of dollars paid out every year,” the Senate Judiciary’s subcommittee on antitrust, competition policy and consumer rights said in a statement Wednesday announcing the hearings.
There is all you need to know about this effort right there — “millions of dollars”.
Under the BCS, some conferences get automatic bids to participate in series, while others do not.
Obama and some members of Congress favor a playoff-type system to determine the national champion. The BCS features a championship game between the two top teams in the BCS standings, based on two polls and six computer ratings.
Behind the push for the hearings is the subcommittee’s top Republican, Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah. People there were furious that Utah was bypassed for the national championship despite going undefeated in the regular season…...
Hey, unlike our President, you have to earn your stripes….Utah is not exactly a football powerhouse. Stop Whining and keep winning….that’s the way to get respect!
…..The subcommittee’s statement said Hatch would introduce legislation “to rectify this situation.” No details were offered and Hatch’s office declined to provide any.
Hatch said in a statement that the BCS system “has proven itself to be inadequate, not only for those of us who are fans of college football, but for anyone who believes that competition and fair play should have a role in collegiate sports.”
In the House, Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, the top Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee, has sponsored legislation that would prevent the NCAA from calling a football game a “national championship” unless the game culminates from a playoff system.
Good lord….just like anything else that revolves around money, Congress will get their slimy hands in the middle of it and ruin it. Frankly, I believe there should be WAY LESS money involved in college sports, but I am no expert on how to get it out of sports. Anyway, I’d rather focus on getting OUR money out of Washington and back into our pockets….but I digress.
Further, Obama can’t get past his “fair for everyone at the expense of a few” doctrine even where college football is concerned. For heaven’s sake do we now need an act of Congress to dictate how college football will be played? And worse, so that everyone is treated “fairly”? The college football system has been “unfair” for decades….but sometimes that is just how it is, you know? GET OVER IT, ALREADY.
And at a time when our country is being forced down a toilet hole with Obama’s fingers on the flush handle, college football just isn’t the most important topic of the day……..GEEZ….
I suppose they may decide that young men playing college football don’t “Volunteer” enough and may have to end up serving their time with “Obama’s Youth Program” before being allowed to play?
Or maybe their “scholarships” will get taxed at 90% but the players will only find that out AFTER they are on the team?
Or maybe we will find that a mandatory threshold for homosexuals on the team will be required….none of this “don’t ask, don’t tell” either.
Or will we find that the best teams will be forced to “blow the game” so that those less talented, and less fortunate, players can “win one for the Obambi”?
And, of course, you will not be allowed to speak about religious issues, have religious symbols in the locker room, nor proselytize before a football game either.
This is the kind of asinine crap that happens when an arrogant President and an over-powered Congress decide to “make things fair”.
Obama. Congress. Focus on fixing the crap you started in tearing down our country and get your hands out of college football!!!!!
