During Friday night’s debate, one statement that stuck out for me was, when after having a “Me Too” moment, Barack Obama proceeded to suggest that (paraphrased) “no soldier ever dies in vain”.
Immediately, I thought about how many toes he had just stepped on with his words. You know if it had been up to Barack Obama, the Iraq War would have ended with a United States surrender and immediate withdrawal from the country.
Many times, Barack Obama has stated he would withdrawal troops based not on particular progess on the ground or recommendations from Commanders, but on dates alone. That is a recipe for defeat and the US would have lost if it had been up to Obama. (never mind that he spins his story now to try and make you believe that his strategy is now being implemented…There is now some talk of reducing troops, but Obama forgets to mention that the reduction is due to US Military Commander recommendations and conditions on the ground…we are now on the winning side, not the losing side)
Back to his statement…. I must remind Barack Obama that soldiers CAN DIE IN VAIN when a liberal anti-American politician lobbies to have troops removed from the battlefield before the war is won. Obama’s comment is so callous, unthoughtful, and misinformed it boggles my mind.
Obama, try to tell those mothers, fathers, wives, sisters, husbands, brothers and others out there that if their loved one has died in the war, it means nothing to them if we surrender!
Not only is it a stupid statement for Obama to make, but also one that is counter to what he has said earlier about our troops…. From Obama’s Iraq War speech in 2002 (H/T: Gateway Pundit):
Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain.
Now to the “Me, Too” moment and the bracelet. John McCain mentioned the bracelet he wears as a reminder that our soldier’s must not die in vain and the war must be won.
I guess ‘ol Barry had to get into the game and mention the bracelet he supposedly wears to honor the soldier whose name appears on it…..However, he had to look down at his wrist to READ the name of the soldier on it.
In addition, there is proof that Obama was wearing this bracelet AGAINST the wishes of the soldier’s mother! More from Newsbusters.org:
…..Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son’s name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family…………
…..Jopek began by saying that his ex-wife was taken aback, even upset, that Obama has made the death of her son a campaign issue. Jopek says his wife gave Obama the bracelet because “she just wanted Mr. Obama to know Ryan’s name.” Jopek went on to say that “she wasn’t looking to turn it into a big media event” and “just wanted it to be something between Barack Obama and herself.” Apparently, they were all shocked it became such a big deal……….
But, he also said that his ex-wife has refused further interviews on the matter and that she wanted Obama to stop wearing the reminder of her son’s sacrifice that he keeps turning into a campaign soundbyte………
……………..To pile insult onto injury here, the Mother doesn’t even want to force the issue of telling Obama to stop exploiting her son because she wants to see him win the election. Obama is not only taking advantage of this brave soldier’s death, he is taking advantage of the good wishes of the man’s Mother who doesn’t want to hurt the campaign……
….Obama’s use of this soldier that fell in the line of duty is tainted by his ambition and callousness. And the media is letting him get away with it…..
Obama does not respect the military nor, as McCain pointed out repeatedly, does he understand the importance of winning in Iraq.
So why would we expect Obama to understand the definition of honor or of “dying in vain”? Why would we expect Obama to honor our fallen heroes with a call to victory? Or to honor the request of a fallen soldier’s mother?
