Dems add pork to “bail out” plan – $$$ to ACORN, National Urban League and LaRaza

I’m glad the House Republicans (and McCain, if he had a hand in it) have shown some back bone and slowed this freight train down a bit on the bail out.  I am not an economic expert, but I am entirely fascinated and have soaked in as much news and writing about this as possible….. I do suspect that the world will not end if the $0.700 TRILLION package is not passed today.

You always have to be suspect when the Democrats and a Democratic-leaning Treasury Secretary trying to cover his butt cry that we have financial Armageddon if we don’t have almost one TRILLION dollars right now!

Well those feelings have played out to be correct in this instance…..

Did you hear the mantra from Washington yesterday saying clearly, “Why this plan will be good for the American Taxpayer….it will likely make money down the road and turn a profit!”……well OK maybe that is true, maybe it is not.

But while the Democrats would lead you to believe this money would flow right back into the treasury and the taxpayer can be happy …..did you know that the “plan” the Democrats were selling yesterday includes part of the profits being allocated to ACORN, the National Urban League, and LaRaza?

That’s right….they have inserted into this plan provisions to spend money by giving it to anti-American left wing causes BEFORE THE MONEY IS EVEN IN EXISTENCE!

From Stop The ACLU:

…….but the Democrats already have a plan to siphon off any repayment of the people’s money back to the treasury by adding one little line to the agreement that would end up stealing money from any repayments and giving it to left-wing political advocacy groups like ACORN, the National Urban League and the Hispanic group La Raza. Instead of trying to help the economy, the Democrats just want more money for their left-wing political constituents.

On Thursday, the Senate Democrats shopped around a one page “Agreement in Principle” from the U.S. Senate Banking Committee that laid out their proposal for the bailout of the economy. At first it all seems rather straight forward, but hidden inside this document is one little line that proves that Democrats aren’t as interested in the economy as they are in trying to extort a payday for their favorite political advocacy groups. Yes, even in a bill as important as the bailout the Democrats are trying to stuff it with pork!

Here is the seemingly innocuous line from the Democrat’s Bill:

“Directs a certain percentage of future profits to the Affordable Housing Fund and the Capital Magnet Fund to meet America’s housing needs.”

If you research further about the Affordable Housing Fund and the Capital Magnet Fund, you find ACORN and other left wing groups.  Stop The ACLU found the Wall Street Journal article from July 2008 indicating the intended recipients of Democrat pork:

That tax eventually will channel upwards of $600 million annually in grants for developing and restoring housing, mostly as low-income rentals, available to Acorn and other groups (such as the National Council of La Raza and the National Urban League ). Democrats on Capitol Hill and housing groups say the housing-assistance money is vital to helping Americans hit hardest by what some call the largest drop in home values since the Great Depression.

Hey Democrats….maybe you could think about fixing the mess in which you share most of the blame and get your nasty, slimy hands out of the cookie jar?

Or maybe, just maybe, some of that “profit” could be spent on reducing the national debt that you are always accusing others of inflating?

Just for review…..and to emphasize the point…. who are ACORN, National Urban League, and La Raza?

From Stop the ACLU:

Many may already know that ACORN ( The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) is under investigation in several states for voter fraud. They have been caught turning in hundreds of thousands of fake voter registration cards in an effort to stuff ballot boxes with fake voters and pump up Democrat vote totals. ACORN’s founder also tried to cover up an embezzlement scheme his little brother perpetrated when he stole $1 million dollars of the organization’s money. This has only lately come to light.

And one Presidential Candidate has big ties to ACORN and its not John McCain.  From Michelle Malkin:

…..What we have here, essentially, is Obama using a non-profit group called Citizens Services Inc. as a front to funnel payments to ACORN for campaign advance work…..

……FEC reports show that from February-May 2008, Obama paid $832,598.29 to CSI…..

….(and from the Consumer Rights League)   “ACORN has a long and sordid history of employing convoluted Enron-style accounting to illegally use taxpayer funds for their own political gain,” Terry claimed. “Now it looks like ACORN is using the same type of convoluted accounting scheme for Obama’s political gain.”……

……Blair Latoff, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee said): “Barack Obama’s failure to accurately report his campaign’s financial records is an incredibly suspicious situation that appears to be an attempt to hide his campaign’s interaction with a left-wing organization previously convicted of voter fraud. For a candidate who claims to be practicing ‘new’ politics, his FEC reports look an awful lot like the ‘old-style’ Chicago politics of yesterday.”

Again from Stop The ACLU- What is La Raza?

Of course, many are also aware of the race oriented Hispanic La Raza group that has been a major player in trying to allow illegal aliens to enter the U.S., vote in our elections, and take freely of schools and social welfare monies.

I might also add that LaRaza also advocates the Mexican invasion of Southwestern states in the US…they claim it is theirs to take….LaRaza is as anti-American as they come!

What is the National Urban League? From Wikipedia:

The National Urban League (NUL), formerly known as the National League of black men and women, is a civil rights organization based in New York City that advocates on behalf of African Americans and against racial discrimination in the United States.

Guess what demographic group of people are voting at at rate of 93% for Barack Obama?  Perhaps a little cash courtesy of the Dems is in order this group, huh?

Why Bush and Senate Republicans are seemingly going along with this notion of pork to far left groups is anybody’s guess….they shouldn’t be.  Or, most likely, this is one of those points up for discussion before the bill was to be finalized…that seems more plausible.

Bill Smith at ARRA sums it up best:

When government tries to fix social issues through the use of the taxpayers’ money, there are consequences. Now the American taxpayers are being called upon again to underwrite the problems exacerbated by the prior actions of former and the current Congress and past administrations. It is hoped that Senators and Representatives will avoid this massive “earmark.” All “future profits” from the resolution and disposition of the alleged current bad mortgages (“bad paper”), should accrue to the American taxpayers as a whole and be returned to the Treasury. Any determination as to the use of “future profits” should be determined by those elected and representing the people at that future point in time. No agreements should include an obligation on the potential “future profits.” No agreements should support questionable programs that support organizations that contributed to the failures of mortgages or to the bad lending practices promoted by prior Congresses and administrations.

It’s clear that something needs to be done, but clear heads and capitalist principles must prevail….after all it was liberal social engineering that got us into this mess…why should we approve something that continues that process in one form or another?

  1. I think this is the biggest rip off in the history of the USA
They say if we don’t bail them (who every that is) out then we will hit rock bottm. Hell, I been at rock bottom. And you know what, when your at rock bottom you have something to stand on. And when you have something to stand on then you can stand up and make something for yourself.
How about a free market? Is a free market a new idea? I just don’t get it.
Mad as hell about government and it giving away my hard earned money.

  2. My friends, my friends – we are at a threshold in history. After 8 years of failure by the leader of our party, we must rally behind me, my friends, and begin the largest effort of blame-shifting in the history or our nation.

You know the tragic end to our party leader’s presidency – this economic crisis? Well, we must make sure that the Democrats take full blame for everything. Take up your quills, uh I mean typewriters, d’oh, I mean those boards of keys, you know, with the letters and numbers that you plug into the computer screen… well, take them and write that the Democrats are behind this whole bailout.

Make sure that you include the Republican Secretary of the Treasury Henry “Hank” Paulson is really a Democrat in disguise. Also make sure you say that even though our party leader Bush tried to incite fear and panic in Americans a couple of days ago that the financial sky was falling, tell them that it was the Democrats who really tried to incite fear(maybe you could use a word like “Armageddon”) and they are the ones demanding this bailout go through right here, right now.

My friends, you should be proud that you are so entrenched in Conservatism and being a Republican that you can ignore our own party’s flaws and part in this. It ensures that you will always vote Republican, no matter what. Also, just ignore that part about where I said a few days ago that I will suspend my campaign and postpone the debate. I thought my political grandstanding would rally the nation behind me as a leader who flew back to Washington to save America – but I just ended up walking around the Capitol building and waving hello to the tourists(damn reporters and their video cameras). And please ignore my running mate’s last interview with Katie Couric. No more mistakes like that; we’ll keep her interview limited to Fox News staff… uhh, except Alan Colmes.

And this silly legislation that the Democrats want to add to the bailout? Well my friends, even though the legislation calls for appropriating some of the PROFITS, that means, the money left over after your 700 billion in tax dollars is repaid… again, even though some of these profits will go to organizations and funds that will help out alot of the people hurt by the housing crisis – let’s make sure we point out the smaller percentage of radical groups that will benefit and not the larger percentage of misled, down-on-their-luck Americans.

We can turn this election around my friends! And with your blind faith in everything the Republican party does, we will win this election and bring 4 more years of my friends!

  3. The bailout and Bush’s scare tactics are rediculous. This is Bush’s last opportunity to steal money and he’s trying to do the biggest heist in history. His only reason he’s stated to do the bailout is that americans will have more credit? Isn’t that the problem to begin with? Can we recoup the billions the executives made off us first? So if we pay our already earned taxdollars to billionaires, they will lend it back to us with a high interest rate? That makes no sense at all! This is only so that Bush and his rich friends can steal one of the largest sums in history. It won’t stop the bank from foreclosing on your house, and it won’t stop the super wealthy from pocketing all the money. Its a scam! Paulson was CEO of Goldman Sachs. He’s only helping his buddies and himself, just like Bush. Super Greed is all it is.

  4. Section 8 of the bailout proves its a scam – “Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.”

  5. Gosh, sharprightturn, Pretty bad when your own clones blog 75% against your propaganda.
    Too bad.

    O&B ’08 …for all the American People.

  6. ergot,

Don’t confuse “clones” with trolls, fools, and other assorted kool-aid drinkers. I’m not sure which one you are…perhaps all three?

I guess you haven’t been paying attention. The leaders of BOTH parties are saying the same thing about the nature of the financial crisis and the need for action. The only real debate is on what kind of action. Ironically, the Democrat leaders of the House and Senate ALL support Bush’s proposed fix. As usual, their support is contingent on modifications…some are good, some are not. Maybe you should educate yourself a bit before tapping out any more.

How about a bill with no BS that applies any “PROFITS” to bringing down the buget deficit / national debt? I know that’s a novel idea for Republicans and Democrats alike, but it’s something we’d better start getting serious about. Although you have occasional lucid moments, your fatuous little McCain imitation belies your superficial understanding of most everything discussed.

  7. Democratic behavior summed up in one word? Despicable. The ACORN allocation is criminal, but it does fall in line with the behaviors of prominent senate and house Democrats.

  8. GBS – Holy moley! You gave me a compliment – “Although you have occasional lucid moments…” Not the greatest compliment I’ve ever gotten, but I’ll take it(as a comedian would say, this is a tough room).

And guess what, I’ll return the favor and completely agree with your cogent estimation of the economic situation.

Heck, I’ll even agree that my McCain imitation was fatuous too! Not only because alot of the stuff he says is fatuous, but because of this: You know what a synonym for fatuous is? Silly. Which is what the imitation(with all comedic intention) was meant to be – lighten up!

Then again – you might have been on to something when you said, “…superficial understanding of most everything discussed,” because if those are the words you derived from my imitation of John McCain – I must have done a better job than I thought.

  9. Do you really consider yourself a conservative with a website that pushes for McCain and Pallin? Are you serious? Ron Paul is a conservative. I didn’t see him voting for this bailout crap. McCain is a sellout. He has always been ok with the illegals, the crazy spending, the lobbyist ties, and the elitist globalists. Hey…Obama is no better in my opinion.

McCain meeting with La Raza made me sick. Obama wanting a global tax and to give the UN more power is un-believable. I’ll only vote for someone who stands up for states rights, and small government. This movement toward a “New world order” is a bad thing.

  10. I notice how the excuse to justify the passing of this bill is often “Well, the free market has gotten us into this mess…we need the governments help”. NO! Not allowing a free market is what got us into this mess. Corporatism and fascism is what has gotten us into this mess!

  11. Derek,
McCain and I simply disagree on some issues and agree on others., but at least McCain will not be as destructive as Obama.

Obama, his ideas, and his friends are dangerous….

  12. “In an attempt to woo recalcitrant House Republicans to vote for the $700 billion economic bailout bill, senators loaded it up with earmarks, including $2 million in tax breaks for companies that make wooden arrows for children and millions for U.S. wool producers and auto racetrack owners.

McCain had warned against such a thing happening. In a speech in Michigan before the vote, he said: “It is completely unacceptable for any kind of earmarks to be included in this bill. It would be outrageous for legislators and lobbyists to pack this rescue plan with
taxpayer money for favored companies. This simply cannot happen.”

It did. And he voted for it anyway.”ergy.

  13. It’s the Repubs who profited from the bailout pork, you idiots. Do your research instead of whining about the Dems.

  14. “It’s the Repubs who profited from the bailout pork, you idiots. Do your research instead of whining about the Dems.”
