Palin vs. Obama – Let’s talk about experience and background, shall we?

The comparison below is the best I’ve seen so far in debunking the “experience” (or lack thereof) rhetoric thrown out at new VP candidate Sarah Palin.

While Obama claims to want to fix Washington, beat back corruption, end unnecessary spending, and be the “bi-partisan” master as President……facts show Sarah Palin already has him beat in many of those categories…..

This is an impressive list and really points out that if you believe Obama is qualified for President, Sarah Palin, at this point anyway, may be better equipped for the role of PRESIDENT than Obama.

  1. Certainly not an unbiased view but I like it.

Hail to the Chief (Christ, that is)!

  2. ‘Smoking hot in a “naughty librarian” sort of way’

    ROFLMAO!!!

  3. ISN’T OBAMA STILL A CHAIN SMOKER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Why are we compairing Palin to Hussein????
I thought Palin was running for VP. Oh that’s right McCain is old and Palion MIGHT have to take over. Has anyone ever heard of Ronnie Regan? He was one oif the best we had. Give me a break.

  5. The very fact that Obama is the presidential candidate and Palin is VP candidate and the experiences of the two are being compared indicates the weakness of the Obama supporters argument. Moreover having run for president for the past two years in itself should give Obama an edge and from the little we have seen Palin can hold her own, indicating that Palin is far superior to Obama. Go get them girl!!!!!!!!!

  6. I like how you try to make this appear legitimate… but it’s blatantly biased. Dismissed as more extremist hype….check!

  7. Palin – Governor of state that borders two
    foreign countries (Canada and Russia)?

You need another lesson in geography. Canada is the ONLY foreign country that borders Alaska. Most 5th graders know that fact…

  8. “Pro life;gave birth to 5th child knowing that he would have Down’s syndrome”

You mean…Pro life and pro abstinence-only education; never was actually pregnant but pathetically lied about it and claimed the son as her own to cover up her 16 year old daughter’s pregnancy in the grand hypocritical tradition of the Republican party.

  9. SP,

Take your BS Daily Kos smears and go somewhere else…like over a cliff. You people have quite the fertile imagination. I’d like to see the Obama campaign try to make that one stick.

  10. GBS,

Her 16 year old daughter has quite the fertile uterus.

  11. Come on..what about trooper gate…16 year old daughter had the baby gate. If not that its the “I flew on an airplane while in labor gate.”

Was voted into Wasilia Mayors race with 909 total votes. Increased the budget in AK by millions. (The jury is out on how effective she is.)

She begged for the bridge to nowhere before she says she’s now against it.

Doesn’t even know what the VP does. knows little about the lower 48. knows nothing about international affairs or the war in Iraq.

  12. Good start. How about a comparison with Biden?
And post some kind of a map link
so that people like Andrew Stevenson can learn
some basic geography. Actually, here is a nice
link with all sorts of info.

  13. SP,

Get some therapy for that obsessive behavior…seriously.

    Leftisright,

I suppose your name says it all, but why don’t you at least wait until you actually find out what she knows?

Oh wait, I guess you aren’t used to doing that. After all, you and all you other little robots jumped on the Obama bandwagon quickly enough after hearing all his vacuous bumper-sticker slogans.

  14. haha Obama talks about the environment a lot… very true, what exactly does he plan to do other then throwing money at projects he claims will automatically work.

  15. GBH

I actually “vetted” my candidate before I selected Obama. I don’t find him fascinating or great or even “the one”. He’s simply smarter. Has better policies (see his website, not the talking points.)

I find saying I’m voting because he’s black or god or the hope candidate as offensive as voting down party lines no matter who the candidate is or what they stand for.

I believe in the 2nd amendment and all the rest of the amendments. So does Obama…he’s taught constitutional law. This is a man that protects that document above all…like a president should do. They swear to it don’t they?

I idiotically voted Bush 00 because I thought he’d keep the economy going. Little did I know what a dimwitted moron or calculating evil man he was and is. Little did I know my vote stood for death and destruction of INNOCENT people. Just like we all find so offensive on 9-11. Two wrongs do not make a right.

I’ll debate the issues. But don’t pretend to know why I vote. I served the country, I think I’ve earned that right.

  16. Summer,
Many times there’s truth in humor…but that is something you libs will never understand.

Come to think of it, libs really wouldn’t know the truth or humor even if it could “uh…mmm….uh” you to death without a teleprompter.

  17. WELL, I HOPE YOU DEM COMMIES GET YOUR WAY.
REMEMBER THIS STALIN 30,000,000 DEAD AND MAO 50,000,000 DEAD MOSTLY THEIR OWN PARTY BUDDIES. DON’T COME TO THIS REPUBLICAN FOR HELP.

  18. SP.
Please don’t spill your Koolaid on my blog…

  19. GJC,
There you go with the truth again slapping a lib in the face….:)

Actually, I have had some thoughts about putting together the Biden/Palin comparison….I am looking forward to that exercise as soon as I have time!

  20. This is scary !!! Who ever made this site is extremely brainwashed and very uneducated. We will be in a holy war if this woman is elected with Mccain.
The crazy christians are not going to win this one!!! You all scare me !!! We do not live in the 1800’s..
Obama 08 !!!! He’s going to win, we all know it !

  21. LisR,
I WILL profess to know why you vote as you do…..

In the absence of any clear thinking in your post, I have to conclude that it is because, just like those on the left, you base your decisions on emotions, race, gender, loose facts, myths and lies…..

One other thing…Barack Obama will protect the 2nd Amendment!!! Did you mean to make me choke on my sandwich? Obama’s history is long and clear on his mission to take guns out of the hands of innocent citizens……I’d say you need to do a litte more vetting of your candidate.

  22. RWB

Would you call George Washington, John Adams and Ben Franklin commies? All longing for a better country free from tyranny and an over bearing government.

Fact is communism is when the government watches you to protect you from the evil people. Anyone on the left is not for that kind of government.

I don’t agree with all the left issues. But freedom is a pretty d@mn good platform to start with. On the second amendment they are dead wrong. But we’d have to vote away those rights…ain’t gonna happen and its in their own interest to protect FROM our government, not some terrorist.

Problem is neocons have been brainwashed as to what an independent liberal really is. Its not what you think…its all in the Constitution…every word of it.

    Semper Fi

  23. Valerie,

You funny girl…..now crawl back in your little wonderland and leave us adults alone.

  24. LisR
    What?!?!?!?!?

  25. STOP, how can this be. We are compairing the qualifications of the president with the qualifications of the vice president. This should be the other way around, we have demoted Obama to vice president status regarding experience. We must admit, however, that Palin has more experience than Obama , but most African-American will still vote for Obama, not because he would make a better president, but because he is black. Therefore, I ‘ve decided to withhold my vote, because as an American first, and African-American second, Palin is part of my history as well.

  26. SRT

I just stated why I decided on Obama. I’m certain you can read.

You might want to actually do a little vetting of Obama before you think you know how he stands. His one bill on the 2nd amendment was directly related to the murder rate in the inner city in Chicago. It addressed the one issue and addressed harsher punishments for gun related crimes.

He has said numerous times his views of the 2nd amendment are that he is for protecting it.

Ignorance is an excuse but not a very good one.

And if you would have choked on that sandwich I hope you had healthcare. 😉

And I see you have distanced yourself from GWB. Wow, he’s a vague memory of a disaster for the Conservative party isn’t he? And you all let him run wild. Nice job standing up for “the country”. What a scam…

  27. “I don’t agree with all the left issues.”

Then, shouldn’t your name be “leftisrightsometimes”?

“I actually “vetted” my candidate before I selected Obama. I don’t find him fascinating or great or even “the one”. He’s simply smarter. Has better policies.”

Then why don’t you let Palin speak a couple of times before judging what she does or does not know?

  28. LisR,
I have vetted Obama apparently more than you.

Did you know that in 1996 Obama stated a position of banning the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns?
Did you know that in 2000 he considered becoming the President of the Chicago-based Joyce Foundation after having served on its board since 1996? This foundation takes an aggressive gun control position.

As a matter of fact this Foundation of which Obama was a board member contributed more than $12 million to gun control groups since 2003. The largest single grantee ($4.1 million) was the Violence Policy Center. This center calls for an outright ban on handguns, semi-automatic and other firearms, and substantial restrictions on gun owners.

So how is it that someone like Obama who CLAIMS to want to protect the 2nd Amendment sits on the board and considers the Presidency of a group that used their money to ban guns.

Last I check that is 180 degrees away from supporting the 2nd Amendment.

Review of SRT Lesson #1: Just because Obama says it, don’t make it so!

  29. OBTW “leftisright”…

I’ve been around a few Marines in my time, but never a ‘lefty’ one. Your clucking about ‘service’ rings a bit hollow to someone who has spent the vast majority of his adult life in the military. Military service isn’t what the Left is about. You must have kept that waaay under wraps.

  30. Here is some vetting for you…

I’ve been checking her out. She might be a fine Gov of state of 600,000 people and hasn’t even completed her full term. But she is NOT ready to be VP.

On gun control how has he stopped or implemented any laws on banning guns?

All of your evidence on his 2nd amendment ideas is just you saying so. Give us some links to bills or other credible sources. I think you’re just spewing talking points from another site.

Here’s my link to the contrary.

    http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8UQTAS80&show_article=1

Its a newspaper. He’s for gun control, but not like what you’re trying to imply. He’s talking about tracing guns to owners.

  31. Marines don’t want freedom? Wow, what Marines did you talk to. We fight to defend the constitution…I’m still standing by that oath.

    Semper Fi

  32. LisR,
    If freedom is your cause….

In your mind, just what is it that McCain won’t do and Obama would do for the cause of freedom?

  33. Andrew,
You obviously are not “smarter than a 5th grader”….you should start a game show.

  34. SRT

McCain will not be a maverick if that’s what you think. He’s proved that’s just something to say now. They have control of him now.

He’ll continue the erosion of the constitution. Look up all of the assaults by Bush, they won’t be repealed under McCain. He hasn’t had an issue with any of the torture, wiretapping, rendition and or return of Habius Corpus. Right now you can be arrested and not brought before a judge if they deem you “dangerous”. What happened to due process?

And McCain has no new ideas. What new ideas does he have? Drill? That won’t do anything. Repubs are in the hip pocket big oil. We’ll be bled dry. They say the same stuff every year and we’re going down the toilet.

You are voting against your best interest people. Wake up.

  35. I hope —————————.

(SRT deleted this message….we don’t condone stupid racist comments!)

  36. MMS

There’s the real reason…wow. But I suppose its expected.

  37. you have to be kidding with your comparisons! This woman is a great governor and was a good mayor of a small town but comparing her experience to Obama and oh yea, she is running for Vice President so the comparison she should be compared with Biden!!

I just can’t beieve how disconnected conservatives are. I am a Southern Baptist but I am sometimes completely blown away with the ability of evangelicals to rationalize any Republican candidate even one who would risk the our Country for political gain. Remember, McCain is 72 and is not in overall great health. Remember you might just get what you wish for.

    JC

  38. LisR,
MMS gives humans a bad name…period.

  39. you created this site to try and discredit everything Barack has done what has the drunk alcoholic George walker Bush did when he became president and leader of the free world . but steal and election and started the most expensive war in america’s history thats his legacey . a black man even if his entire family and biological mother is white as chalk . is still black , an white racist uneducated americans will not accept him. so go ahead do your polls do your blogs against Barack Obama

  40. Your a good man SRT. Good job monitoring.

We don’t have to agree on everything. I believe we all love this country.

That kind of stuff is gonna happen, but it still unfortunate.

    Semper Fi…

  41. MMS,

Who the ^&*( are you? You have to be the dumbest person ever, to say something like that!

    And SRT,

how the hell do you allow someone to post something like this.

P.S: There are better candidates out there than Palin for vp!

(Edited by SRT….don’t like some of those 4-letter words…not useful to the discussion)

  42. LisR,
You sound like a robot spitting out the left talking points…..

I don’t think it matters what McCain or Bush do or have done….you will deceive yourself into believing they don’t care and they are the devil incarnate.

Torture – Bush has not condoned torture. It is always amazing to me that those on the left didn’t think it worthwhile to remove a torterous, dictator from power. But radically condemn Bush as a murder-plotting dictator…..

Wiretapping – Wiretapping is a crucial tool used in finding those who are planning attacks against our country. None of the wiretaps used were directed at ordinary US citizend but at those communicating with potential terrorists or groups overseas…..that is one fact the left likes to leave out.

So who, in your inner circle, do you know that has been arrested and not allowed a judge?

We don’t need to drill for oil? We have a vast supply in this country. Drilling in the near term would bring down prices and create some leverage with other oil producing countries. Besides, I don’t think you have heard any Republican say that drilling is the only answer. McCain believes drilling now is one step in a full comprehensive energy policy for the future. Obama, on the other hand…well it is hard to say what he wants exactly—he was against drilling before he was for it…..Drilling is a means to product our own oil and natural gas while we develop other sources of energy (that will take years!).

I’ll take my chances there, Leftie, on McCain being more in my best interest than Obama…..I don’t want to see a Socialist America thank you very much!

  43. Patrick,
Crawl back in your hole and quit playing the victim.

Just because some people believe Barack has a lack of experience and Socialist policies to boot….has nothing to do with his color.

  44. Biggs,

You will see that MMS post is altered….I DON”T allow that kind of racist crap on this blog….

Besides I believe Barack has some pretty cute little girls…they are very charming…..they shouldn’t figure into these discussions at all!

  45. LisR….

    Just so you know….I’m not a “good man”….I am a woman….

  46. The criteria here is laughable. Notice that education is not mentioned. Hmmm, wonder why, lol. Republicans have NOTHING! So you all resort to petty political spin on trivial issues. Bush got in the driver seat and has damn near drove this country to hell. This election is over already! We will have a democratic president and congress and finally be able to get something done for the PEOPLE! oh another thing, If you make less than 200,000.00 a year and call yourself a republican, you are a friggin idiot. sorry. Their policies are in place to protect the rich and keep the “middle class” poor…keeping ALL of the power in corrupted organizations and special interest groups. Upholding policies that avoid leveling the playing field, oppose affirmative action while providing no alternative to offset discrimination against blacks, women, and other minorities. Mccain opposes equal pay, i mean it is truly the party of rich white men!

  47. LisR,
I just saw your comment with the link…those with links have to be approved before appearing here…I just saw it a few minutes ago. Sorry for the delay in responding.

The facts on that case are that Palin was unaware of someone on her staff talking to Monegan. Bailey, the person who did speak to Monegan was suspended by Palin for doing something not in the scope of his job duties.

In addition, the investigation is being run by a Democrat and he, himself, has said that she has offered so many records and information in the case that he has not had to issue any subpoenas.
Also, one fact….the Commissioner of Public Safety in Alaska serves at the will of the governor and it was within her rights to fire Monegan if she saw fit.

    On Obama and 2nd Amendment….
    Joyce Foundation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Foundation

    Background on Obama’s gun positions:
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/04/obamas_gun_dance.html

    http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Gun_Control.htm

Also, as far as believing Obama….he also answered when asked, that domestic terrorist William Ayers was just “someone who lives in his neighborhood”….Well, Obama started his Illinois Senate campaign in Ayers’ home AND served as President of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a group started by Ayers. They served on another board together for 3 years and have appeared together at many events.
There is much information the web about this….but I’ll cite Wiki here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obama%E2%80%93Ayers_controversy

So, again, just because Obama says it doesn’t make it so.

  48. Z Duncan,
Until you can present some facts and not deranged, Democrat talking points…..go cry your river somewhere else.

  49. FACT: mccain does not support affirmative action. fact mccain does not support equal pay. FACT: mccain voted against mlk birthday as a national holiday, when asked why while speaking at the naacp he said “because i was wrong.” oh, btw, that was another FACT. Bonus FACT: you didnt factor education into your cute little comparison. enough facts “my friend” lol. i will admit though, Palin seems to have a good personality. I hope people dont get caught up in her charisma, thats probably what mccain is banking on.

  50. Z duncan,
Still no facts to back up how Bush drove the country into the ground….but, even better, do you know how inconsistent and ironic you sound?

You are a staunch supporter of affirmative action and upset about discrimination of women, yet you are commenting with rabid disgust against the candidate and party who just nominated a woman for VP?…..

What education are you talking about? Are you implying that Obama’s Harvard education (which came to him because of affirmative action) trumps anything else about another candidate?

  51. Z duncan.
    Almost forgot.

As far as people getting caught up in charisma….that is probably not a very good argument against Palin since most of Obama’s qualifications consist of charisma and reading from teleprompter…..
The Dem voters are masters at getting caught up in a personality this time around.

  52. Ok Sharprightturn you ask me for facts, i present them. You come back at me with assumptions and false accusations. I understand, you see, this is typical of those with no sound argument (ie 99% of republicans). So tell you what I’m going to do, breakdown your whole response into fractions. Show you how clueless you are then I will go elsewhere to find a more mentally stimulating/challenging blog.
    Lets begin:

YOU: “Still no facts to back up how Bush drove the country into the ground….but, even better, do you know how inconsistent and ironic you sound?”

ME: ummm, look at the economy…we attacked Iraq because of…? Even half of your own political party acknowledges that bush is a failure and his approval rating is what??? 20 something percent????

YOU: “You are a staunch supporter of affirmative action and upset about discrimination of women, yet you are commenting with rabid disgust against the candidate and party who just nominated a woman for VP?…..
    rabid disgust???”
ME: ok, so he is not in support of equal rights for women, but he picks a woman with the same twisted views…hmm, i see how that makes it right, lol. Saaay? maybe he even has some black friends. lol

YOU: “What education are you talking about? Are you implying that Obama’s Harvard education (which came to him because of affirmative action) trumps anything else about another candidate?”
ME: Soooo are you saying that you don’t know her education background??? right? lol. you could have just said that instead of all the hot air and assumptions. oh and a law degree via affirmative action??? wow, so that’s how you get one of those??? no studying or anything? Perhaps expertise in constitutional law would never come in handy while governing a country. I see why its not applicable. 😉
    YOU: Almost forgot.
As far as people getting caught up in charisma….that is probably not a very good argument against Palin since most of Obama’s qualifications consist of charisma and reading from teleprompter…..
The Dem voters are masters at getting caught up in a personality this time around.
ME: Speaking of reading from a teleprompter. I see that Palins first two public speeches were exactly the same and delivered very well I might add. Perhaps she can help Mccain so he doesn’t trip over his own words so much…she might also be able to help him figure out how many houses he owns.
Ok, its been fun, i’m out of here lol. you guys are funny.

  53. SRT, you don’t get to act intellectually superior let alone fair and balanced (heh) when you started off with this joke of a “comparison” in the first place. You lost from the very beginning. In fact, anyone who reads a blog called “Sharp Right Turn” has to take anything written about liberals on it with a gigantic boulder of rock salt.

  54. SRT
You have a great list of comparisons here! Don’t listen to all the left wing whackos who are just mad because you are accurate!

McCain/Palin is the real choice of change for our country!!

  55. Jewely,
Yes, I know…..the lefties are very active since the announcement of Palin….I think they are running scared.

  56. zduncan,

Is there a fact in there somewhere? There certainly is no coherent argument.

    leftisright,

Never confuse a socialist agenda with freedom. You don’t even get out of the blocks with that one. Methinks you didn’t last very long in the Corps, if you were ever there.

  57. Fareed,

There is a bit of a “tongue in cheek” aspect to this. Some things are accurate, some are a bit exaggerated. The trouble with you libs is that eight years of rage have bored a hole in your brain where the humor and common sense is supposed to be.

This blog makes no pretense at being “fair and balanced” any more than one like, say, the Daily Kos. If it stings, then too bad.

  58. Z Duncan,
The economny grew in the 2nd quarter of this year by 3.3%…..Countries that are in the soup-line condition that you libs describe don’t grow at 3.3%.
Unemployment has risen slightly in the last quarter, but overall in the last few years, we have enjoyed a low unemployment rate in this country…well below 5%.

If you will read your history books from around 2002-2003 and even as far back as the first Gulf War, our intelligence, as well as the intelligence of most of our leading allies in the World, thought Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. The libs favorite President Clinton and their wanna-be-President Hillary both said that they believed Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and should not be allowed to possess the weapons. Never mind that Saddam Hussein ignored umpteen UN resolutions in the run-up to the Iraq War….but you people on the left can’t handle the truth….instead you continue to repeat that Bush lied.

Many of the people on the right side of the aisle are upset with Bush for very different reasons than the radical left. The hatred of Bush for the left stems from his win over Gore in 2000. Many of us on the right are unhappy with Bush’s stance on illegal immigration as well as the spending that has occured on his watch. That is what accounts for his low approval.
But if you really want to talk about low approval, your Democrat-controlled Congress has about a 14% approval rating….

I thought the purpose of Affirmative Action was to equalize the workforce for minorities and women….I didn’t realize that meant that in order to actually be promoted based on your sex you have to believe as those on the left side of the spectrum……
(Palin is not a victim of affirmative action anyway, so it is really a moot point where she is concerned, but your response is telling nonetheless.)

Actually I do and did know Sarah Palin’s educational background. Your question simply wasn’t very coherent. She has a degree in Journalism from the University of Idaho. Her minor was politics.

Sure a degree in constitutional law is nothing to sneeze at. But you would think a man with that degree would understand the 1st and 2nd amendments.

    Uh…yea….Obama…uh…..doesn’t……have…a…uh….uh..mmmmm….problem…..with…uh….tripping …..uh over….any …..of….his…uh…uh…..words……Does he?

  59. Someone needs to read Obama’s web site again. He has some of the most ridiculous ideas. How about illegal immigration? Obama: We’ll go into Mexico and create jobs there so Mexicans will stay in their own country. LMAO. Now OUR government will support their’s??

Obama: Put American’s back to work. Let’s *fasttrack* building new roads, repairing old roads and let contractors bid on them cheaply so they will hire more people! Translation: American citizen’s open your pockets so the goverment can take more of your money to put others to work on the roadway…Obama will sink us.

McCain and Palin are the only choice.

  60. SRT:

Wow. You’re busy with this blog today eh?? Dems don’t like the truth very much do they?

  61. KDW
    The lefties are running scared…….bbbwwwaaaaa!

  62. Interesting issue about education and the Presidency. Because we’ve had a bunch of lawyers running, especially on the Democrat side, some people have got it in their head that a law degree is a prerequisite.

In fact, in the last 75 years, only four Presidents…Clinton, Ford, Nixon, & FDR were trained attorneys. GW Bush (the only MBA), GHW Bush, Reagan, Carter, LBJ, Kennedy, Eisenhower, and Truman were not. In fact, Truman didn’t even have a college degree.

    Policy differences aside…

Obama’s academic credentials are most impressive. However, McCain’s Naval Academy and National War College background are not to be dismissed. Yes, I know he graduated fifth from the bottom at the USNA. It’s not quite the same there as with other schools…and he certainly proved himself worthy while on active duty. Now, when you line up McCain’s 20+ years in the military plus another 26 years in the House and Senate against Obama’s service as a community organizer, law professor, 7 years in the Illinois State Legislature, and 3 years in the US Senate (nearly 2 spent running for President), the edge on relevant policy experience clearly resides with McCain.

History has shown that Presidents with academically strong resume’s sometimes succeed and sometimes fail. Some of the most modestly educated Presidents were also our best. It ultimately depends on the intelligence, experience, character and fortitude of the man (or woman), not which degree they possess or school they attended.

Some may see being a lawyer, even an expert on constitutional law, as a huge plus. If Obama were standing for appointment for a seat on a Federal Court bench, there is no doubt that law training would be vital. However, the formulation and execution of policy, not law, is the focus of the Executive Branch. Even a President Obama isn’t going to sit around researching the legal minutiae of a particular piece of proposed legislation. He simply won’t have the time. He’ll have his own staff lawyers for that, as would President McCain.

More importantly, President Obama will have to make MANY critical decisions regarding the military and how they are employed. He has absolutely no point of reference for this. The recent Presidents without any military service, Clinton & Reagan, both stumbled badly in their use of the military. Yes, I know that even Presidents WITH some military experience have also stumbled, but there is no denying that experience in the area you are discussing helps regardless of the subject. Yes, President Obama would get advice from the military professionals, but ultimately, the decision is his. How does his training as a Constitutional lawyer help him here? How would McCain’s five decades of real world experience help him? At this juncture with our forces deployed in two conflicts along with rising tensions with Russia, is Obama really the more qualified guy to be making those calls?

  63. Yoohoo! I’m a former Democrat, I’m now a Republican. Go McCain-Palin!
McCain is far more experienced than Obama… washrooms huh?
Palin beats Biden… dems have change? reps have a better change!

    Hey look at this:
    OBAMA-BIDEN
    (OsAMA-BIn laDEN)

    research to mean speculation.
and corroborated to mean a zesty sour cream based dip.
    (an excerpt from Colbert’s book)

  64. This is the kind of lightweight “intellectual” analysis that gets our country into trouble. Why didn’t you put Education on your list of background and experience? Please don’t make these kind of lists if you’re not going to be even reasonably thorough. What’s a resume without an education section? Nothing. I’d revise and repost.

The problem is that Palin only has an undergraduate degree…in journalism. That is completely unacceptable. Period. That’s where the buck stops for me.

    Please, this is a joke.

  65. You guys are annoying.

Obviously this was a biased comparison.

However, the responses to this comparison are atrocious. Some of you need to wash your brain of “republican” or “democrat.”

As George Washington said, political parties will only tear this country apart.

Look at the issues, not the political platform.

(Some of you are doing quite a good job of defending your position, however)

But my personal opinion… I don’t like Palin because she doesn’t like polar bears! Who the hell doesn’t like polar bears?! B^&*((s, that’s who!

    (Post edited by SRT)

  66. And have you researched the maternity issues of her “child” Trig? The questions are pretty scary considering her stance on abortion. I’m a professional writer and I’ll tell you–a journalism degree is a joke. As a friend of mine said to me over the weekend, “Do you think she understands the derivatives market?” I’m sure not. Heck, just a few weeks ago, she didn’t even understand the job of the VP. The world is laughing at us. The support we give this choice is even more laughable. She’s not intelligent. She’s a woman who got through college on her looks alone (won a scholarship through the beauty pageant).
I’m disgusted and scared for America.

  67. Also, re: the point of the great undereducated presidents in our past–the world is much more complicated now. Much more. We can’t even compare.

  68. Having a son as a serviceman, hardly qualifies this broad as having Military Affairs Experience, and talk about a personal vendetta by actually firing the State Public Commissioner because of a nasty divorce. Talk about bullying….. More of the same.

    OBAMA BIDEN B%^&*S!!

  69. See how the better change ticket for USA: McCain-Palin is changing numbers:

  70. why does palin not love polar bears?

she wants them off the endangered species list! for what reason? oh yeah- you can’t drill where there are endangered species!

we need to focus on green energies, opening up new markets, new jobs, because god knows we need to replace those jobs going to india & china.

we need universal healthcare for all the taxes we pay: payroll tax, income tax, state tax, local tax, etc. we pay close to the same amount as europeans- don’t let them fool you, there’s plenty of hidden taxes.

in my case it would cost approx 850$ a month for a HMO/PPO plan and under $200 for a indemnity plan- so after the doctors rape me with a bill i can forward it to be reimbursed.

we should not rely on employers to provide us with subsidized insurance and tie us with healthcare.

    UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE OR DEATH!

  71. Let’s roll!

    Go McCain-Palin!

  72. No to ANWR oil drilling, instead promote Greenergy!

    Go McCain-Palin! Let’s roll!

  73. Sarah Palin has an undergraduate degree in journalism. She also used to be a sports anchor on tv. But then she really got things started when she joined the PTA. Thanks god for that PTA for jump starting her career. I’ll make sure i start getting involved in the PTA right away, then maybe I can be a VP pick too oneday.

Barack attended Columbia and Harvard Law. And not because he is half white. That is a racist accusation that you should be ashamed of.

Not to mention she has a four month old baby with Down Syndrome. I guess babies with Down Syndrome don’t need as much attention as normal four month-olds. Some conservative family values she’s got there. I guess nannies are a dime a dozen at the white house.

OH, WAIT! What’s that? Sarah’s husband races snow mobiles? Well, why didn’t ya say so. Sign me up for McCain & Palin.

    yeeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

  74. […] Palin vs. Obama – Let’s talk about experience and background, shall we? […]

  75. Tax paying Americans voting for Obama is like a chicken voting for Col Sanders.

I was not inclined to vote for him before, and I’m sure not voting for him now.

  76. A very clear comparison. As someone else said it is a little biased but the truth still comes through.

Unfortunately, the attacks just keep on coming. Instead of being disappointed about it I think it points to the real power of the nomination.

  77. DC Politix –
For such the intellectual that you are, you sure do fall for the lefty tabloid trash rumors disguised as real issues.

When you come up with some real issues, let us know.

  78. Join the PTA,
So now affirmative action is racist when it applies to Barack Obama?

    Typical hypocrite lefty……

It sure is uncomfortable when the left’s ideas are turned against them, huh?
    I am enjoying this.

  79. “Also, re: the point of the great undereducated presidents in our past–the world is much more complicated now. Much more. We can’t even compare.”

    DCpolitix,

I’m not trying to say that being undereducated somehow makes one more suited to the office of President, but ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Are you trying to imply that the world that, say, Harry Truman faced from 1945-1952 was somehow LESS complicated than ours? REALLY?

How about Washington? He only had to work to defeat of the most powerful nation on earth, assist in the forming of a new and untried form of government, and then be its first President. Pretty simple stuff.

How about Lincoln, who had to deal with 11 states saying “we don’t want to be part of the U.S. any more”? Oh by the way, those 11 states were also trying to form an alliance with Great Britian…still the most powerful nation on earth. Nothing as complicated as what we face today.

You need to think a bit more before you spout out the “it’s more complicated this time” silliness. It’s rarely more complicated, just different.

  80. “This is the kind of lightweight “intellectual” analysis that gets our country into trouble.”

    DCpolitix,

    Great point…see above.

  81. For all you less than smart people who did not catch why Russa was listed as a bordering country, It was because Russa is only a stone throw away from Russa and Is subject to international problems like fishing rights which must be addressed by Alaska.
Hope this helped clear your minds.

  82. […] Palin vs. Obama – Let’s talk about experience and background, shall we? The comparison below is the best I’ve seen so far in debunking the “experience” (or lack thereof) […] […]

  83. When does “bordering” Canada and Russia qualify as Foreign Relations experience? Does anyone from Alaska, much less Palin herself have to visit with Russian or Canadian officials(except maybe to discuss fishing rights in the Bering Strait)? Then by that token, I guess the governors of Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, New York, Maine, California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas have foreign relations experience too. I am soooo thankful that I haven’t heard any legitimate Republican officials spew that utter bull on TV to sell Palin’s foreign relations experience because the Dems would have shredded them to pieces. Show me some clips of Palin meeting with Putin… come guys, admit it, McCain has screwed us. And I pray to the good Lord that you guys can throw this statement in my face after Nov. 4th, but I’m really starting to doubt it.

  84. To clarify my point also, I’m just really scared of having Palin that close to the White House. All I hear on the news from Republican pundits trying to defend her experience is that she’s only the number two on our ticket while the inexperience comes with the number one on the Dem ticket with Obama. That’s all well and good, and I’m going to vote for McCain as opposed to the alternative, but McCain is no spring chicken. And yes, he’s vibrant and lively and his Mom is ninety-something and doesn’t act a day over 80… but a veep’s main responsibility is to take over as Commander-in-Chief if the president dies or is incapacitated or just plain can’t do the job(and the veep also presides over the Senate, don’t reply with a list of the veep’s responsibilities please, I did pretty well in American Gov 101). If, and I know it’s a big “if” something does happen to McCain…. Palin is prez. I’m sure you’re comfortable with that because she’s from our party and that’s all that matters – no that’s not all that matters. I voted for Reagan happily because he was awesome AND he just so happened to have George Bush at the number two. I voted for George Bush warily because he had Dan Quayle(and I thank God Bush was healthy). I voted for W. warily because he was W., but at least he had Cheney(although Cheney was showing a bit of vulnerability and that would have left Pelosi…. uhhh, I just threw up in my mouth a little bit). Somewhere in there I voted for Bob Dole too ; ) I’m sorry – I’m just not convinced on Palin… don’t take me for sexist either because I would have wholeheartedly supported Hutchison as the veep… as for Carly Fiorina – uhh, no. If you support Palin because you truly believe she’s the best for the spot – more power to you. If you’re one of the mindless drones in our party that watch Fox News 24-7 then please think for yourselves and don’t let Hannity and Limbaugh decide for you.

  85. Not factual either. If you hate someone, it’s ok to lie about them, I guess. Cool.

  86. Softrightturn- you sure you’re not a liberal plant?
You don’t sound like any Republicans I know…even those who don’t prefer Palin….
    HMMMM?

  87. Lynne,
We understand the Messianic following of Obama doesn’t allow for clear-thinking….

but for the thousandth time…..LIGHTEN UP LIBERALS….this post is clearly meant to list the facts of each candidate in a funny, right wing way…..truth in humor…you know…..get a grip.

  88. C’mon sharpright. Why can’t I disagree with you guys and not be painted as a liberal. You know, back in the day(the 80’s… yes, Reagan) it was fun to be a Republican. Now, with the advent of 24 hr news channel talk shows and Rush Limbaugh, the mentality is, “If you ain’t with us, then you’re against us.” My big qualm with the Republican Party right now is the selection of Sarah Palin as the veep. I don’t know if it’s because I’m moderate and not far enough to the right to appreciate her or what. Sure, she fits the bill as a conservative candidate, but as VP and potentially President of the United States, I disagree with her qualifications.

I’m sorry I don’t sound like the Republicans that you know, but you have to understand, I like to think for myself, and I’m sure you’re the same way. My beef is with the Repubicans who live and die with every word out of Rush Limbaugh’s mouth. I tune into Limbaugh, Hannity, and Michael Savage every now and then and it’s funny to see how they disagree too(even though they seem to be in about the same position on the right). Limbaugh hates McCain but loves Palin. Hannity(probably the biggest tool of them all) loves them both like a good Republican/wanne-be conservative should. And Savage hates them both. The party seems a bit fractured, first off with McCain taking the nomination – and now(although I’m sure McCain thought it would be the unifying factor while reeling in some of the disgruntled Hillary voters) the pick for Palin as veep. Anyway, sorry for disagreeing, but I do, and I thought I could vent some of that to a few fellow Repubicans. Now I’m just a liberal, great.

  89. Softrightturn,
    You talk like a liberal….

You’ve bashed the Republican party, its members and its voice in a condescending, “I’m a thinking person” way….. and you still haven’t said what it is about Palin that is so bad……and what about Hutchison is so much better.

  90. Here we go, talking in absolutes. I’ve “bashed the Republican party, its members and its voice”. I recall only bashing Limbaugh and friends – I guess that’s the whole Republican party and Limbaugh is its voice.

I’m a thinking person, sure, what’s wrong with that. I think their are alot of thinking people in the party. Does that make me liberal? Have I said I’m pro-abortion and that we should have a socialist health care system? Did I say take all the guns and melt them down and then use the scrap to build houses for welfare opportunists? No. I’ve just bashed the selection of Palin as veep and now I’m a liberal. Because in no way should anyone disagree with McCain and “his” party. I’m going to say one thing about Hutchison that makes me believe she’s the better choice – more national experience. Bash me all you want – that’s my opinion. I am allowed to have an opinion in this party – right?

  91. softrightturn,
Fine to have an opinion….but you’ve written 3 or 4 times and have offered no reasons why Sarah Palin is not qualified.

  92. As an admitted Democrat and Black person, I find this site highly disturbing and amusing. I am not sure why I am posting, except that I think that the beauty of the Web is the fact that it truly allows for open discussions accross all barriers.

Anyway, I admit I am biased towards my own beliefs, but one of my chief complaints about this list is that you have listed elements that while they may make Palin look good, have almost nothing to do with taking part in running the Executive Office. Even if this is a humorous list, for example, being able to give a speech without a teleprompter is NOT a litmus test of how good you would be as vice president. You also ignore the clear failings Palin has already exhibited in just a few days. All the exceptional things about Obama, you make light of, flying in the face of all reason.

The fact that Michelle Obama is a super-educated lawyer and executive, for example, while Palin’s spouse does not have similar experience, is presented as if Michelle’s education and high-level work is somehow a negative. I would think that it would be obvious that the opposite is true. All our lives we are taught that MORE education and working at higher levels of executive experience is BETTER — these are supposed to be indicators of an exceptional, acheivement-oriented, disciplined and purposeful personality. But for Michelle this is a negative? Huh.

You also leave out the most obvious failing regarding Palin: she preaches family values and abstinence, her biggest plusses for someone with your value system, but she could not even make these values work in her own home. How can she do so for the country? I think that says a lot more about how she will be able to influence the country on many levels than the fact that Obama doesn’t exercise, or that Barack’s middle name is Hussein. Yet, you leave that off the list.

You also leave out a lot of critical points about Palin, and I wonder if you just do not know them. For instance, Palin petitioned the government to have polar bears taken off the endangered species list, and wants to destroy the pristine Alaskan preserves to drill for oil. I know we need oil, so I am not really trying to pass judgement on these acts. But how can you leave these items out of any honest assessment of her environmental record compared to Obama’s? It seems dishonest and/or uninformed, which is why your fellow republican on this post is insinuating that you are “not thinking.”

To work in politics in Washington, it takes really instense, subtle coalition building and lobbying (both within government, and between the public and private sectors). As a state senator and community organizer, these are the kinds of things that Obama has done about a multitude of issues — even if you don’t agree with his stance on the issues. As a legislator and organizer, he has learned how laws are made from both sides over a process of years. As mayor of a tiny town, Palin has learned no such thing. As governer, she may have had slightly more exerience, but Chicago alone is larger and more complicated than her state. You leave out these glaring facts.

It’s not “humorous” to me at all, and may actually lead people who don’t seek out a variety of view points to made poor decisions after reading your blog.

I think you many want to think about what the items on this list have to do with the process of making things work at the highest level of government. If you look at it that way, most of the plusses you have listed for Palin are not really relevant (althetic, giving birth to a disabled son, been mayor of town of 8,000, signing bills other people have created into law as governer), while the minuses you list for Obama actually are related to the job: college education, graduate degree in law, a highly educated, articulate and accomplished spouse, actual experience making laws through legislative government, and experience on Capitol Hill.

  93. You also leave out that Palin’s husband actually took back that job at BP, and has it now, despit the potential conflict of interest it posts, as you note above, just so you know:

    http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=6965360

This article is old, but still relevant, just google if you care.

    Also, I meant:

    “governor”

    Above. Thanks!

  94. LEXIS B:

YOU: Even if this is a humorous list, for example, being able to give a speech without a teleprompter is NOT a litmus test of how good you would be as vice president.

ME: That would be part of the humor…besides, I’m sure you realize their are many people out there who are voting for Obama for very few reasons other than he can speak well from a teleprompter.

YOU: “You also ignore the clear failings Palin has already exhibited in just a few days”

ME: How astute of you to attribute 3 days of left media spin as “Palin’s failings” while I’m sure you don’t consider Obama’s ties to a domestic terrorist, a racist preacher, a wife who isn’t proud of her country, among others as anything to worry about….

YOU: “All the exceptional things about Obama, you make light of, flying in the face of all reason.”

ME: Based on this sentence and the one above, it is clear that exceptional is in the eye of the beholder.

YOU: “The fact that Michelle Obama is a super-educated lawyer and executive, for example, while Palin’s spouse does not have similar experience, is presented as if Michelle’s education and high-level work is somehow a negative.”

ME: It seems that the fact that Sarah Palin is also highly educated with more elected office experience than Barack Obama, seems to be overlooked by you. You seem to think highly of Michelle Obama’s experience but not Palin’s…fancy that.
In addition, it might surprise an elitist like you to know that there are people in this country who look highly upon those who work with their hands.
And the point of the comparison was not to demean Michelle Obama’s achievements, but mainly to set up the next comparison which was to point out how Michelle and Todd each handled their careers after their spouses were in elected office. Well Todd quit his job so as not to create a conflict of interest. Michelle Obama used Barack’s government ties to gain earmark of $1million for her employer…she, in turn, was promoted with a 160% pay raise…..

YOU: I would think that it would be obvious that the opposite is true. All our lives we are taught that MORE education and working at higher levels of executive experience is BETTER — these are supposed to be indicators of an exceptional, acheivement-oriented, disciplined and purposeful personality. But for Michelle this is a negative? Huh.”

ME: See my comment above….but try to remember that not every one is elitist and judges others based solely on their Harvard degrees or their income or the ability of the husband to score them big raises…YOur statements here smack of a little snobbery.

YOU: You also leave out the most obvious failing regarding Palin: she preaches family values and abstinence, her biggest plusses for someone with your value system, but she could not even make these values work in her own home. How can she do so for the country?

ME: Good lord…you think that everyone who espouses family values and abstinence are doomed and therefore should have no career because a daughter comes up pregnant….
There would be a lot of people out of work if that were the case.
My bet is you like the Clintons, too….did you think Hillary was unfit to run because she couldn’t control her man Billy from having sex in the oval office? (and other places with more women) Doesn’t sound like either of them were fit for office…they couldn’t even have a decent marriage.

YOU: I think that says a lot more about how she will be able to influence the country on many levels than the fact that Obama doesn’t exercise, or that Barack’s middle name is Hussein. Yet, you leave that off the list.

ME: I think the facts that Obama has NO executive experience, voted “present” 100 times in the Illinois Senate, and served on committees in the Senate that he never convened don’t give me a whole lot of confidence in his ability to run the country. (aside from the fact he will turn it into a socialist welfare state if he achieves full power)

YOU: You also leave out a lot of critical points about Palin, and I wonder if you just do not know them. For instance, Palin petitioned the government to have polar bears taken off the endangered species list, and wants to destroy the pristine Alaskan preserves to drill for oil. I know we need oil, so I am not really trying to pass judgement on these acts.

ME: You’re not???…then why do you want me to list those “acts”.
Did you know that Barack Obama thinks it is OK to let babies who survived abortion die on the shelf? He voted against laws to let them live…did you know that?
So which is worse? Polar Bears or humans?

YOU: But how can you leave these items out of any honest assessment of her environmental record compared to Obama’s? It seems dishonest and/or uninformed, which is why your fellow republican on this post is insinuating that you are “not thinking.”

ME: Well, blow me away….I guess I need you liberals to tell me how to think…sorry I didn’t ask you first.

YOU: To work in politics in Washington, it takes really instense, subtle coalition building and lobbying (both within government, and between the public and private sectors).

ME: Wait until I stop laughing….Obama has never built a coalition in his life. We do see a great example of Obama’s community building efforts in the earmarks to his wife’s employer and the years he served on Bill Ayers Education Board..you know the guy who tried to blow up the Capitol and is not repentant about it…..
Did you know that Sarah Palin has a minor in politics? I’m sure they never taught her anything about the law there….she is probably not really even sure there are 3 branches of government yet…
So I guess I ‘ll just have to give in an vote for a guy who has not one accomplishment in his career except exceling at teleprompter speeches.

YOU:It’s not “humorous” to me at all, and may actually lead people who don’t seek out a variety of view points to made poor decisions after reading your blog.

ME: Did you notice the name of my blog? Sharp RIGHT turn…if you are expecting some kind of Fairness Doctrine on this blog, you are in the wrong place.

YOU: “I think you many want to think about what the items on this list have to do with the process of making things work at the highest level of government. If you look at it that way, most of the plusses you have listed for Palin are not really relevant (althetic, giving birth to a disabled son, been mayor of town of 8,000, signing bills other people have created into law as governer), while the minuses you list for Obama actually are related to the job: college education, graduate degree in law, a highly educated, articulate and accomplished spouse, actual experience making laws through legislative government, and experience on Capitol Hill.”

ME: Why don’t you enlighten me, oh lady of fairness? You are trying to say that my words, my beliefs and my blog are all wrong and leaving out glaring details….but I am supposed to take seriously your last paragraph which pretty much diminishes the work of a lady who has made more executive decisions in her career and been in elected office longer than Obama….But every last breath Obama has taken on this earth fully equips him for the office….??? Aahhh sure.

  95. LexisB,

    Some good stuff here…

“Even if this is a humorous list, for example, being able to give a speech without a teleprompter is NOT a litmus test of how good you would be as vice president.”

Quite true…and being able to give a really good speech USING a teleprompter is NOT a litmus test of how good one would be as a President!

“The fact that Michelle Obama is a super-educated lawyer and executive, for example, while Palin’s spouse does not have similar experience, is presented as if Michelle’s education and high-level work is somehow a negative.”

Actually, that one looks pretty much straight-up accurate, although the education of spouses is almost not worth mentioning. Where’s the negative for Mrs Obama?

“You also leave out the most obvious failing regarding Palin: she preaches family values and abstinence, her biggest plusses for someone with your value system, but she could not even make these values work in her own home. How can she do so for the country?”

“YOUR” value system? Does that mean that LexisB’s “value system” promotes family anarchy and promiscuity among teenagers? Are you saying that the Obama’s believe in that? I doubt it. I’ll chalk it up to a simple mis-phrasing…you’ve been forced to listening to GWB for the past eight years and perhaps you picked up some of his occasionally questionable grammar. It’s OK.

When you get right down to it though, teenagers in all types of families make mistakes…sometimes very visible ones. We all try to raise our children the best we know how and hope they make the right decisions. Sometimes, it doesn’t work out. The difference between the Palins and many others is that the that the Palins are taking responsibility and accepting the consequences of the mistake. Finally, YOUR candidate has correctly gone on record saying that Palin’s kids shouldn’t be part of the debate anyway. Enough said.

The rest of your post highlights the policy making experience of the Obama and Palin. No doubt Obama is better educated and has more DC policy experience than Palin, and Palin has more executive experience than Obama. Indirectly, you have nailed the fatal flaw of the ‘comparison’ between Obama and Palin…they aren’t really running against each other. McCain is running against Obama. McCain has probably spent more time in Capitol Hill bathrooms over the last 26 years than the TOTAL time Obama has in DC.

When you line up those two, there’s NO comparison regarding experience.

  96. The other night I was watching the news and Obama was talking the hurricane coming into Louisiana. His most ridiculous remark was “The buses are on the ground.” Where else would the buses be, in the air, or maybe in a pond somewhere. This man cannot talk without his teleprompter or notes.

  97. LEXISB for PRESIDENT! :D:D

kidding — but LOVE your talking points!
Keep up the great fight against the ilk of this nation!

    Gods speed!

  98. With respect to foreign policy experience, you did not adequately describe Barack Obama’s experience: He is a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

According to the Committee’s website, “The committee is one of the oldest in the Senate, dating back to the initial creation of permanent Senate committees in 1816. It plays a vital role in shaping U.S. policy around the world. The committee has oversight over the foreign policy agencies of the U.S. government, including the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and the Peace Corps. The Committee reviews and considers all diplomatic nominations and international treaties, as well as legislation relating to U.S. foreign policy.”

Please add this to the chart.

  99. wfay,
Your definition of the committee itself is pretty good….too bad there is nothing there that actually mentions anything Obama has done on the committee

Maybe it is because he didn’t do anything…..

He took over a stewardship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on European Affairs in January, 2006 and has never called one policy hearing.

For someone who wants us to believe he will work hard for us, you would think he could have mustered the time to do his job in the Senate.
Having a title for Foreign Relations doesn’t make you any type of expert on it.

The Obama campaign accuses VP candidate Palin of no experience, but tries to tout Obama’s empty experience on a committee and an 11th hour foreign policy “cramming for the exam” trip to Europe as some type of foreign policy experience.

  100. To SP-your comment in regards to the Downs Syndrome Child of Palins:
“You mean…Pro life and pro abstinence-only education; never was actually pregnant but pathetically lied about it”..claimed the son as her own to cover up her 16 year old daughter’s pregnancy”

Sounds to me like your spouting off about something you dont know anything about because what youre saying has a great big fat hole in it that youre probably too stupid to figure out. So I’ll tell ya.
15/16 yr olds DONT have babies with DS. At least not without it being some rare medical anomaly. It is woman in their mid-latter fertile years that typically give birth to DS babies. By age 30 the odds are 1/900; age 35- its 1/350, by age 40– its 1/100, and by age 45-its a regular occurance with a whopping 1/35 births.

So.. given the odds above, just what are the chances that your claim about the DS child actually being the child of her 15/16 yr old daugther, is correct. Probably the same as a 15 yr old having a DS baby. About 1/1,000,000

so snap shut and know whether your making any sense before you pop off with something stupid.

  101. this site is clown shoes, nothing more the rightwing nuts who echo fox news and talk radio..

SRT keep up the good work Einstein

Now Im off to take a walk to Russia lol

  102. Nice reply LexisB!

It’s quite telling how small-minded and indefensible SRT’s post, ideas and values are when he has to parse and ridicule your reply section by section.

I used to be a card carrying republican, but common sense got the better of me (mainly through the actions of someone in office the past 8 years) and now I’m a strict independent. No partisan gangs for me.

I look forward to helping bring Obama into office in November. This country needs a little revolution right now.

  103. sharprightturnintothedrink,

You’re welcome to go ahead and take a walk to Russia, but if you wanna do it without getting wet, you’ll have to wait a few months.

On second thought, go ahead and take that walk. 😉

  104. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

By Rasmussen’s own admission, they poll, on average, approx 39% Democrats & 29% Republicans in the polls cited here. Just think, were they to poll 40% Democrat and 40% Republican what a huge lead that McCain would have over Obama.

    Go McCain/Palin ’08!!!!!!!

  105. Hi, loved the table! I borrowed, gave it a color and posted in my site. Hope you don’t mind. I gave you proper credit. Drop by and let me know. Thanks!

  106. Autumn,
Actual this chart is from RedState.com….the link to it is near the top of the blog.
    Thanks for reading and linking!

  107. I love the way you refer to the pairs current jobs and past experience to make Obama look green. But lets take a more impartial look shall we?

    Previous experience:
Sarah Palin – small town Alaska mayor (6 years)
Barack Obama – IL state legislature (7 years)

    Current Job:
Sarah Palin – Governor of Alaska (2 year)
Barack Obama – IL Senator (4 years)

Lets take a closer look at where they gained their experience.

Palin: Wasilla, Alaska, pop 7,000 (est)
Obama, Illinois, 5th most populous US state with 12.8 million inhabitants.

Make your own mind, up… but this comparison is so biased its funny…

  108. I believe what this is referring to is EXECUTIVE experience. In a legislature, you simply don’t have to make the kinds of decisions you must make even as the mayor of a small town, much less the governor w/ a budget responsibility of $11,000,000,000 (that’s BILLION).

Also, as President, you can’t simply vote Present when you don’t want to be seen as too conservative or too liberal either way. You have to actually make decisions and then explain why you made them. You also have to understand that a lot of the decisions you make are going to be extremely unpopular with some segment of the population – even among your own party and those who voted for you.

What it boils down to is who is more prepared to do this? A man who has made his entire career out of political expediency, or the man who has made his career out of doing what’s right.

When John McCain was pushing for the surge he said, “I would rather lose an election than lose this war.” That one statement alone speaks volumes and is something that Obama would never have done simply because it might have cost him the presidency.

  109. One more thing – Obama doesn’t actually have 4 yrs experience as a U.S. Senator. Prior to running for president, he had been in the Senate for only 143 days – that’s not even 5 full months.

So…when you’re speaking of experience, he has almost NO experience in the Senate – and that somehow qualifies him to be President of The United States of America???

  110. Hey David Parkes,
Read the title of my blog….Sharp RIGHT Turn….

OkieNeoCon is right…you have your numbers wrong on Obama’s Senate experience.
In addition, Obama was chair of the Senate Subcommittee for Foreign Affairs and never convened a meeting.

How many executive decisions has Obama had to make? ZERO.
Sarah Palin has had to make them every day of her years as mayor and governor.
John McCain made similar decisions as a leader in the military…..I know what type of leadership it took for John McCain in the military…my husband is a retired officer. The minimal legislator experience of Obama pales in comparison to the proven leaderhip and decision-making of McCain or Palin.

Besides that, Obama’s mantra is change….what in the world has he ever changed in this country other than his positions on the war, public financing, and a host of other issues?

  111. When Sarah Palin runs for president in 2012, you should be her running mate. Two powerful, smart, articulate women in office at the same time! Wow.

    Ted L

  112. I am not a feminist, but I am an egalitarian–someone who espouses equal rights for both sexes. I am disappointed in the women Palin gave kudos in her speech. Where are G. Ferraro and H.Clinton when the new little lady on the block needs their support as a sister? Oh, I guess feminists just support Democrat women. It’s OK for Liberal women to work and have kids, but not for Conservative women to juggle a career and a family. tsk tsk

  113. Why do republicans act like this? Is Rush Limbaugh that powerful? Considering people that believe in some fairy tale about a man upstairs in space somewhere, I can see how they could be so easily ‘brainwashed’. Move to Iraq, please. Back to where all the religious crap started.

  114. SHAME ON THIS! If god were one of us, just a slob like one of us.. (great song, fitting of this ridiculous info-mercial article) He (or she) would say “STOP THIS!”
Stop this small-minded, hate-minded, small-club oriented thought that is only destructive to mankind that I created.
If you haven’t seen the movie “The Village,” check it out. Religious fervor- CHECK. Isolation from overall society- CHECK. Complete dismissal of fact and reason- CHECK! Wrap it up with a ‘boogey-man’ to keep you afraid and in control- CHECK!
We see how this group operates.
I genuinely feel bad for folks who buy this stuff because they are so governed by the “CHECK(s)” above. What a tragic waste of life. Oh, I forgot… That sense of tragic loss is tempered by this fantasy fabrication of an after-life. Wow, now I feel really sorry for these folks.. It’s a once around trip and living it controlled, paranoid, and without insight is tragic.

  115. There is no one compelling you to come to this website of – 1) Religious Fervor, 2) Isolationists, 3) Dismissal of face & reason, 4) Boogey-man believers.

Bottom line – I believe what I believe and I believe it with all my heart. You have no idea what those beliefs are, yet you choose to render judgement based on what you perceive as my beliefs. I thought the Democrat party was the party of Tolerance. Or is it that you tolerate others only as long as their belief system is IDENTICAL to yours?

  116. Ted L,
If it meant keeping these “all style, no substance” libs our of office, I may just run!

  117. OkieNeocon,
I couldn’t have said it better! Thanks!

  118. WOW!!! Thnx SRT – That is a compliment to the Nth degree!!!

  119. I forgot to mention: you also have a marvelous sense of humor.

Some of the responses totally amaze me.

    Great blog!

  120. I am also amazed that liberal feminists, faced with a successful conservative woman (and mother) like Palin are suddenly not feminists at all. I guess, for a woman to “crack” the glass ceiling the “correct” way, she must be liberal. It becomes increasingly clear that conservative women must not be allowed to succeed; instead they should be kept barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.

    ***

A short story: the day after I lectured my 19 year old daughter about tailgating, she rear-ended someone. I chose not to involve the insurance company – she is now working to pay off the cost of repairs. Moral: you can raise them right, teach them well, but you can’t control what they choose to do.

  121. Congratulations, Ted. Very insightful solution to a problem that many parents face – both liberal and conservative.

What I don’t understand, though, is why are they so adamant about keeping conservative women barefoot and pregnant? Won’t that just facilitate the breeding of more and more conservatives?

  122. I was doing some research online because I am an undecided voter when I came across this blog. I never blogged before, this is a first for me. I can not believe that with all that is going on in the world and in each of our lives that so many of my fellow citizens spend there “free” time (which is currently being provided by the us troops in Iraq and abroad) putting each other down on the internet. Think about your personal lives? I know in mine the people I care about most have a hard time agreeing on trivial matters, let alone which man we think is best for the Country. I think the party war in this country not only in Washington but in every state….is killing us. You can blame it George Bush or Obama’s inexperience, but the truth is our Government has been corrupt for a long time and it is going to take more than McCain or Obama to fix that. Its going to take each one of us respecting one another and trying to prove each other wrong, but have the intent on making each other better. I know most of you will just have a sarcastic remark and move on, but I hope and pray we can all start to treat one another as we would want to be treated…empathy is the only path to humanity.

Thanks to anyone who took the time to read….

  123. kmj,

I agree that the political parties are killing America. And, yes, it will take more than a new president to solve this problem. The problem goes back a lot further than Bush – the problem is a very old problem.

I try not to make sarcastic remarks, but when I do, it’s with the intent of bringing a little humor into an otherwise serious discussion.

  124. Okie, Thanks for the kind words.

You don’t realize, obviously, that once in our liberal schools, the offspring of fertile, conservative parents will, by becoming educated, automatically become liberals, because, obviously, looking at this and other blogs, conservatives aren’t all that bright or well educated. Just ask a liberal – assuming you can decipher their grammer, spelling, and punctuation.

BTW, that liberal education didn’t take on my daughter, apparently. She is very conservative. A disappointment, I am sure, to many educators.

  125. You may be happy with the outcome or not.

But election fraud determines presidential elections now.

Nothing has been done to correct it.

  126. Sarah Palin:

1)Raised taxes as the Gov. of Alaska.
2)Wants to teach creationism in Science Class, subverting the US Constitution.
3)Tried to get books banned at the local library. – kind of like Hitler
4)Fired her entire staff 10 days into term as mayor, for lack of loyalty.
5)Used every available lever to get an enemy fired from his job, and is still lying about it.
6)Put a gag order on her administration as mayor of a town of 6500.
7)Milked the Federal Government for huge series of earmarks, by using lobbyists. The highest per capita earmarker in the nation: Palin (27 Million for a town of 6500).
    8)Doesn’t believe in global warming.
9)Used Alaska First as her campaign slogan, which is the same one as her husband’s old party, the AIP, a secessionist organization she recorded a supportive piece for this year!
10)Misled America about the Bridge to Nowhere, in her first national speech (she supported it and only killed it after the funding was cut).
11)Wants to ban stem cell research. – doesn’t beleive in science!
12)Is on the record stating the Iraq war ”is a task from God.” – yes, we love wasting $10B and the scores of US soldiors on this. Support our troops, not the war!
13)In July when interviewed about the possibility of being the VP she stated that she did not know what the VP did.
14)Left her town Mayoralty with a huge debt, having outspent all around in her (21 MILION in debt). – some fiscal responsibility

  127. Tara,
Again, I refer you to some facts:
    http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html

  128. Always check your FAQs!

    http://FAQnews.net

  129. Ted,

I’m glad the liberal ed didn’t take on your daughter. I wasn’t so lucky w/ my nephew. To listen to him talk politics, you’d think he had Barack Obama for breakfast, then got sick and started regurgitating.

  130. this is both biased and ridiculous. Passing this off as journalism is unethical and manipulative. check the society of professional journalism’s code of ethics and see for yourself. http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp As a member of the media, I say shame on you.

  131. Nowhere does SRT imply that she is a journalist. If you’d happen to glance at the name Sharp RIGHT Turn, I suppose you’d have a clue what to expect here.

Of course, this is exactly what we’ve come to expect from those in the media. If you’re not allowing the Obamamaniacs to force-feed your their drivel, then you’re not worthy to be called unbiased.

  132. Hallie,
If you are a member of the media, then you are not a very informed one.

I think most media types are aware of the blogosphere which is an online community and social network, of sorts.
We don’t follow the journalists code because most of us are not journalists, nor paid for what we do.

  133. hallie,

This would be called “commentary”…did they teach you about that in media school?

  134. Ah…apparently you didn’t research Obama’s resume. He is far more accomplished than you have put down. Why if I didn’t know better, I would say you were biased. Well I am too…I’m voting for intelligence. I know that really is something un-educated racist red necks hate.

  135. What kills me about these side by side comparisons is that: 1) PALIN IS NOT RUNNING AGAINST OBAMA – Palin is running for VP. 2) It’s obvious what party this poster supports because the entire list was TWISTED! 3) It’s totally absurd because the facts for Obama are ALL WRONG!

    Do your reaearch! I did! OBAMA-BIDEN 2008

  136. pvdugas…
    1) The point exactly…..Palin is more qualified than Obama and he is your #1 guy!

    2) You must not have noticed the name of this blog before reading….

3),If you are seeking an inexperienced, self absorbed, egotistical, corrupt, Socialist, with ties to radicals for your President, your research is impeccable. … Congratulations.

  137. Paul,
If you are seeking an inexperienced, self absorbed, egotistical, corrupt, Socialist, with ties to radicals for your President, then I suppose you did read Obama’s resume….. …

Hmm…uneducated racists red necks….watch it., now….your “tolerance” is showing…..(and you are the only one raising “race” here….look in the mirror, dude)

  138. Actually, I have researched Obama’s resume. What I found was that while he sponsored a lot of legislation as a state senator in Illinois, very little of it was of any actual value and mostly insignificant.

As a U.S. Senator from Illinois, he spent 143 days in office before launching his campaign to be President of the U.S. In 143, days, he signed on to several high profile pieces of legislation, yet authored none. For a Senators name to appear on a piece of legislation, often all they have to do is provide initial support.

Basically, everything he’s done in his political career has been out of expediency. How can this help me garnish support? How will this help me become president? He has offered nothing and done nothing that indicates to me that he is an agent of change. He has the MOST liberal voting record in the senate, indicating that he has NEVER strayed from the party line. And he wants me to believe that he’s all about change? He chose a senator w/ over 30 years in Washington. And he wants me to believe that he is the candidate for change?

Barack Obama is not about change at all – unless it is to change America from the Republic that we all love into a socialist state where there is no more rich.

As far as his tax policies go – Do you honestly believe that raising taxes on only those who earn over $250,000 will help the economy? Ain’t gonna happen. Who do you think provides the jobs? The poor people? When the tax burdens on the employers start to grow, they will begin to lay off AND raise their prices. So now, you have a dual problem – higher inflation and higher unemployment. Anyone who passed Econ 101 can tell you that this is a recipe for a serious recession…or worse.

So, now, about that research you did. Where did you get it? Dr. Suess for liberals?

  139. OkieNeoCon,
Well said! I agree with your assessment 100%.

  140. oh.my.god.
we are all gonna die. I have maybe met like two republicans who are half as crazy as you dudes are. oh my god. i did not know there was this much ignorance out there. sweet mary are you all just Bill Oreilly and good ol Rush posting under different names?? Please. Please tell me thats true and theres not really this many of you crazies. Im not even talking about the original post i thought it was pretty funny but my god the comments that followed… (oh sorry i guess i should use a capital G when i say God around you people right?? haha sorry bad joke) … Seriously guys… I urge everyone on here liberal or republican DO YOUR RESEARCH get your info from 100 different sources and question every word. This really is ignorance running rampant and it really scares me. PLEASE research your candidates!!!!!!

  141. seriously guys there is alot of “facts” on here and most all are either flat wrong or so skewed that they left the realm of fact long ago… stay away from sights like this and like dailykos and moveon.org for your info… do on their for a laugh!! Get info for the candidates websites. They both try and make themselves sound good but usually there are no blatant misrepresentation of facts. DONT listen to Fox news and for that matter try and avoid msnbc as well. Go to sites like Democracynow.org and other independently owned news organizations. And then heck yeah come on here and argue away but just realize a lie spreads faster than the wind and whatever side you support do you really want to win because of lies?????????

Think about it y’all… I may have been pokin a bit of fun in my first post but heck i had to get in on the mudslingin contest. This ones serious though, PLEASE do your research and avoid all heavily slanted media no matter which way its slanting.

    PEACE

  142. PSS

SRT i LOVED it when you criticized the other SRT for being a thinking person… lol that was classic and the best compliment a liberal can recieve thanks buddy 😉

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20080913/pl_bloomberg/a1j0tfv3xjys

Why was there nothing listed here for Obama?!? Let me put this in:

He once gave a speech to 200,000 screaming Germans I believe they were waving AMERICAN FLAGS! I also believe he met with foreign officials Chancellor Angela Mercal and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier while he was there.

Check out the flags at 39 seconds in! When was the last time that happened with Bush?

    Todd Palin:

Some college courses but does not have a degree

    Michelle Obama:

Bachelor’s degree from Princeton University (cum laude)
Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School

    Reaction to spouse’s political success

    Todd Palin:

Quit 17-year BP oil job when BP became involved in natural gas pipeline negotiations with wife’s administration

    Michelle Obama:

Made a “commitment to be away overnight only once a week to campaign only two days a week and be home by the end of the second day” for their two children

    Criminal Record

    Todd Palin:

    DUI arrest 1984

    Michelle Obama:

    None

    Coolest thing about Spouse

    Todd Palin:

Tesoro Iron Dog Snowmobile race champion (longest snowmobile race in the world)
In 2008, while defending his championship, was injured when he was thrown 70 feet from his machine. He was sent to the hospital but still finished in fourth place

    Michelle Obama:

Sister of Oregon State University head basketball coach Craig Robinson

Most Courageous Moment in Public Service

    Sarah Palin:

Resigned in protest from position of Ethics Commissioner of Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in order to expose legal violations and conflicts of interest of Alaska Republican leaders, including the former state Attorney General and the State GOP Chairman (who was also an Oil & Gas Commissioner), who was doing work for the party on public time and supplying a lobbyist with a sensitive e-mail.

    Barack Obama:

On October 2, 2002, the day President Bush and Congress agreed on the joint resolution authorizing the Iraq War, Illinois State Senator Obama addressed the first high-profile Chicago anti-Iraq War rally in Federal Plaza, speaking out against the war. On March 16, 2003, the day President Bush issued his 48-hour ultimatum to Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq before the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Obama addressed an anti-Iraq War rally and told the crowd that “it’s not too late” to stop the war. The Iraq war has cost the US more than 4000 lives and roughly $600 billion and counting according to the Pentagon. Iraq has been show over and over again to NOT have been involved in 9/11, to NOT posses WMDs and to NOT have been involved with Al Qaeda BEFORE the war.

    In Current Office Because

    Palin:

Upset sitting Governor in GOP primary due to public support for her efforts to clean up corrupt government establishment

    Obama:

After 7 years as a state senator, Obama received over 52% of the vote in the March 2004 Democratic Senate Primary, emerging 29% ahead of his nearest Democratic rival. While it’s true that Obama’s Republican opponent was leading in the polls in his 2004 Senate bid, Jack Ryan was not forced to leave race after his divorce records exposed a sex scandal. Ryan withdrew when it was revealed that he had taken his wife to sex clubs in several cities, intending for them to have sex in public. Even before this however, Ryan was already loosing ground when it came to light that Ryan had Justin Warfel (a campaign worker) follow Obama, throughout the day and record everything he did in public on videotape. The tactic backfired when many people, including Ryan’s supporters, criticized this activity. In the November 2004 general election, Obama received 70% of the vote to opponent Alan Keyes’s 27%, the largest victory margin for a statewide race in Illinois history.

    Theme

    Palin:

    Change and Clean Government

    Obama:

    Hope and Change
    “Bringing Change from Outside Washington”

What they’ve done to live that theme

    Palin:

Replaced entire Board of Agriculture and Conservation because of conflict of interest
Resigned from position of Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in order to expose corruption among members of own party

    HOWEVER:
As of 2008, Alaska was still the largest per-capita recipient of federal earmarks, requesting nearly $750 million in special federal spending over two years and obtaining $295 per Alaska resident from the federal government

In 2006, Palin ran for governor with a “build-the-bridge” plank in her platform, criticizing the use of the word “nowhere” as spin which was insulting to local residents, and urging speedy work on the “bridge to nowhere” and other infrastructure “while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.”

Palin is currently being investigated by an independent investigator, hired by a unanimous vote of a bipartisan committee of the Alaska Legislature, to determine whether she abused her power when she fired Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. Currently, Todd Palin and 5 others involved in the investigation are ignoring subpoenas issued by the mostly Republican committee; again, who had voted unanimously to start the investigation before Palin was on the McCain ticket.

    Obama:

“LugarObama Non-Proliferation Act,” which expanded the NunnLugar “cooperative threat reduction” concept for nuclear weapons to conventional weapons giving us hope for a less violent, war-like future
“CoburnObama Transparency Act,” which authorized the establishment of USAspending.gov, a web search engine on federal spending providing more transparency and citizen oversight.
On June 3, 2008, Senator Obama, along with Senators Carper, Coburn and McCain, introduced follow-up legislation: “Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Federal Spending Act of 2008”

Interestingly enough, Sarah Palin in a speech in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Sept 18th declared, “As Alaskas governor, I put the governments checkbook online so that people can see where their moneys going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.” This only 2 years AFTER Obama did exactly that.

    Family Affairs

    Palin:

May have removed State Public Safety Commissioner as part of effort to protect sister in messy divorce and child custody battle (see above)

    Obama:

Often says, “I am my brother’s keeper”
Brother lives in a hut in Nairobi on $12 per year
When questioned, Obama’s brother said that,” He was furious at reports that he had been abandoned by the Obama family and that he was filled with shame about living in a slum. “It seems there are people who want to destroy me and my family,” he said. “They say I live on a dollar a month, but this is all lies by people who don’t want my brother to win.”

    Union affiliation

    Palin:

Union member, married to Union member

    HOWEVER:

I can’t seem to find exactly WHICH union Ms. Palin is supposed to belong to

The United Steel Workers (the union that Todd Palin belongs to) says this about McCain/Palin:
“While Sarah Palin’s husband is one of 850,000 dues-paying members of the steelworkers union, it does nothing to absolve Sen. McCain of his long history of anti-union sentiment and anti-worker actions.” And “while the governor’s husband is a member of a union, this does not automatically qualify her for an on-the-job training program to become a heartbeat away from the presidency.” On Sept 3, Leo W. Gerrard, International President of the United Steel Workers, said, “Sarah Palin, explain yourself, or stop using the USW as a prop”.

    Obama:

Overwhelmingly endorsed by unions when compared to the Republican ticket

    Iraq and Troop Support

    Palin:

Formerly (pre-surge) critical of apparent lack of long-term strategy for Iraq
Visited wounded U.S. soldiers in Germany
Visited AK National Guard soldiers deployed to Kuwait
Son deploying to Iraq on 9/11/08 as Army infantryman

    Obama:

Obama has voted for all war-funding bills that had come before the Senate since 2005, when he was sworn in.
Visited troops in Baghdad in January, 2006
Visited wounded troops in Walter Reed Army Medical Center in June 2008 (press not allowed)
While travelling extensively in the Middle East in July 2008, Obama visited troops in Jalalabad, Basra, Anbar, in Kuwait as well as other stops.

    Bipartisan/”maverick” credentials

    Palin:

    Married to a non-Republican
    Exposed corruption within own party
Campaigned for Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell against corrupt GOP congressman Don Young
Called out Sen Ted Stevens (R-AK) to “come clean” about financial dealings that are under fed investigation

    Obama:

Angered many in the Democratic base when he voted in favor of the FISA compromise (2008)
Voted with Republicans and stood against senate leader Harry Reid to pass Senate Bill S.1 (2007) for sweeping ethics reform
Worked in a bipartisan way with Richard Luger (R-IN) to pass the Luger Obama Non-Proliferation Act (2006)
Teamed with Tom Coburn (R-OK) to offer 5 amendments to the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act

    Legislative Record

    Palin:

Passed a landmark ethics reform bill
Used veto to cut budgetary spending
Prevented “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars

EXCEPT THIS IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE.

Sarah Palin supported the “bridge to nowhere” and actually had a “build-the-bridge” plank in her platform in her run for Governor in 2006. While the bridge project was killed, Palin still kept the money for the project.

Palin hired Steve Silver as a “City Lobbyist” for Wasilla in 2000. The Palin administration then went on to request $6.6 million in federal earmarks for water and sewer improvements for Wasilla, and another $1 million for police equipment. In total she secured $8 million in congressionally directed spending projects, known as earmarks while Mayor.

    Obama:

Passed a landmark ethics reform bill “Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007”
    The Lugar-Obama Non-Proliferation Act (2006)
The Coburn-Obama Transparancy Act (co-sponsored by John McCain, 2006)
Relief for the Democratic Republic of Congo (2006)
Obama is currently the sponsor of 70 bills and co-sponsor of 404 bills
In the Illinois Legislature, Barack Obama sponsored 823 bills. Here’s a nice graphic from the New York Times illustrating them and whether they passed or not.

    http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2007/07/29/us/politics/20070730_OBAMA_GRAPHIC.html

One of Obama’s signature pieces of legislation in the Illinois Statehouse was a bill that required the police to videotape interrogations and confessions.

How they dealt with corrupt individuals

    Palin:

Exposed legal violations and conflicts of interest of Alaska Republican leaders
    Campaigned against corrupt GOP Representative
Ran against and defeated corrupt incumbent governor in GOP primary

But now that SHE is the subject in a corruption investigation, she and all of her associates are not cooperating as she initially said she would and are ignoring subpoenas from the bipartisan investigation committee.

    Obama:

The Federal Funding and Transparancy Act – requires the full disclosure to the public of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds.
Added amendments to FEMA legislation to stop them from accepting no-bid contracts from political cronies
Offered the following amendments to the 2006 lobby reform bill:

A prohibition on paid coordination of lobbying activities.
A ban on lawmakers’ negotiating future employment as lobbyists.
A prohibition on advocating for earmarks in which the lawmaker has a financial interest.
A prohibition on buying votes with earmarks.
A requirement that earmarks be available for scrutiny during business days.

    Guns

    Palin:

Lifetime member of NRA and avid hunter
video can be found on YouTube of Palin firing an M4 at a military firing range
In 2007, Palin supported the Alaska Department of Fish and Game policy allowing the hunting of wolves from helicopters

    Obama:

Expressed a desire for bipartisan compromise when he said in his acceptance speech, “The reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than for those plagued by gang-violence in Cleveland, but don’t tell me we can’t uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals.”

    Earmarks

    Palin:

Opposed “Bridge to Nowhere” project NOT. Kept money after project was killed
Said Alaska should avoid relying on federal money for projects while accepting $8 million in earmarks while Mayor of Wasilla
Campaigned against porker Don Young (R-AK) in 2008 primary

    Obama:

Signed on as a co-sponsor to senator DeMint’s (R-SC) amendment which calls for a one year moratorium on earmarks. Although the amendment was shot down by a vote of 79 to 21, Obama will adhere to it’s principle by requesting NO earmarks for fiscal year 2009.

Key player in getting the “Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007” passed, which is often described as the “most sweeping ethics reform in history”. In doing so, he stood against Senate leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and the senior senator from Illinois Dick Durbin.

    Abortion

    Palin:

    Pro life
gave birth to 5th child knowing that he would have Down’s syndrome

    Obama:

    Pro-choice
Seeks bipartisan path by stating in his acceptance speech, “We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country.”
He has also stated, “I believe we must work together to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. I support legislation to expand access to contraception, health information, and preventative services to help reduce unintended pregnancies.”

    Energy

    Palin:

Believes energy independence is a matter of national security
For drilling in ANWR, which is in her state

    Obama:

Says Americans should “get tune-ups” and “check tire pressure”, echoing opinions of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, and NASCAR, who have promoted good tire maintenance as one way to manage fuel consumption.
    Proposes to:
    Increase fuel economy (CAFɩ standards
Create a New $7,000 Tax Credit for Purchasing Advanced Vehicles.
Prioritize the construction of the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline
Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025
Enact a windfall profits tax to provide a $1,000 emergency energy rebate to American families.
Crack down on excessive energy speculation

    Environment

    Palin:

Chair of Alaska Conservation Commission (2003-4)
Announced plans to create sub-cabinet group of advisors to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in AK
For drilling in ANWR, which is in her state

    HOWEVER:

In an interview for the September issue of the conservative magazine Newsmax, Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska, said she does not believe climate change is caused by human behavior.
In May of 2008, Palin told the Anchorage Daily News, “Climate models that predict continued loss of sea ice, the main habitat of polar bears, during summers are unreliable” and is suing the US government to remove polar bears from the endangered species list

    Obama:

Strong supporter of the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration and co-sponsored the Great Lakes Environmental Restoration Act
As a student at Columbia University, Obama worked for three months as an environmental activist to promote recycling in Harlem
Introduced “Health Care for Hybrids” legislation that would allow the federal government to pick up part of the tab for the auto industry’s retiree health care costs. In exchange, the auto companies would then use some of that savings to build and invest in more fuel efficient cars.
    Proposes to:
Implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050.
Make the U.S. a Leader on Climate Change
Work for tougher regulations on concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) to prevent air & water pollution

    Athletic prowess

    Palin:

    Runs marathons

    Obama:

    Lifelong basketball player and fan
Occidental College’s leading scorer in basketball in 1979
Works out at least once a day and yes, reporters do follow him to the gym to watch him sink 3 pointers

  144. Let me get this Straight!!!!

Obama was elected to the Senate Two years ago.

He has been Campaigning for President for Eighteen Months.

If we give him the job, are we to expect him to Campaign for the King of the World Job after six months of being elected????????

Think about that for a minute.

  145. Remember the Terrorists that flew the planes on 9/11, they lived in America for years to learn how to fly the planes inorder to kill us.

During that time they appeared to be good citizens.

Let me see, Obama went to Muslim schools.

He belonged to a Church listening and agreeing with Reverand Wright who is obviously a “racist”, and hates the United States.

Also he is Friends with William Ayers, a self proclaimed Terrorist.

I understand that I could be wrong, but has anyone checked to see if he was ever connected to the Terrorists who flew the Planes on 9/11?????

Remember, they waited years to do their deed.

  146. Wow Terry, guilt by association huh? That’s a great arguement. In that case we better review the verdict on McCain and his involvement with the Keating Five. Oh, and Palin(though she wasn’t a card-carrying member) associated with an organization that wants Alaska to secede from the US – the Alaskan Independence Party. Guess who one of those members was – her husband. So, yes Terry, kudos on your logic!

  147. Oops you forgot one for Palin Family Values. Teen Pregnant Daughter is expecting her very first illegitimate baby. aawww.

  148. Oops!
Perhaps I should also include that Obama was born to an 18-year old mother…..awww

  149. Silly remarks abound.

If the bailout goes through, altering the form of government-

THEN I am a born again crony.

    Yes, crony I say.

    I’ve seen the light!

And I only demand a $200 million bailout- pocket change I tell you.

Send a tax free Treasure check and the talking points- Im in.

Yep, so what if I swore to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States of America right?

If none of our elected officials respect much less defend it, it is more expedient to jump that gravy train and clear out to a remote fishing lake in Alaska after it gets too uncomfortable here in the 48.

Sign me up, send my check, I await bailout.

I will of course kick back 20 million to the party that puts me on the crony supremo list of bailoutsmanship recipients.

    I have seen the light!

  150. Techweenie,

In response to your corrected resume of Obama, I want to point out that you stated he has sponsored or co-sponsored a total of 795 (136 sponsored, 659 co-sponsored) pieces of legislation while in the U.S. Senate.

However, as I stated in a previous post on this blog, all one must do to be listed as a sponsor of legislation is to support the effort.

Bottom line, Sen. Obama hasn’t actually AUTHORED any significant piece of legislation during his time as a U.S. Senator.

When a Senator authors legislation, this is a true measure of his effectiveness in office. Sen. Obama, in light of this, has been pretty ineffective in this capacity.

Also, his willingness to vacillate between positions and refusal to voice an opinion regarding what should be done in light of the current economic crisis signals to me that he hasn’t a clue. As President, this isn’t something he will have the luxury of. He will be required to make a decision, and sometimes those decisions will have to be made quickly with little time for discussion.

Sen. Obama simply doesn’t have the experience necessary to lead the United States of America for the next 4 yrs, let alone the next 8.

  151. Ok, I will type slow and try to use small words, so those of you who want to beat this horse can keep up. Yes, this is a very humorous piece, more true than not, and admittedly biased. And, the even more important fact, as has been pointed out, is that McCain, not Palin, is the one whose experience should be being compared to Obama. That being said, here is the simplest anology I can come up with those who would compare Sarah to Barrack in terms of experience.
Let’s say I run a store. I have a cashier who has worked for me for five years. I have a stock clerk who has worked for me for one. I have a position opening in the shipping and recieving department. Who has the more experience for the job? I’m sorry I can’t get it any simpler than that, so if you can’t get it, please don’t vote.

  152. Fact #1 – Palin served some time on City Council, she was not a mayor for 10 years. She worked for the city of Wasala total of 10 years, a few years on city council and few years as mayor.
Fact#2 – Who cares what her experience is compared to Obama……he is running for President and she is running for Vice President. Her experience should be compared to Biden.
Fact#3 – I am an undecided voter (Independent) and is probably one of only a few people who can actually look at all of this with an open mind (not republic or demacrat). I find some of the information misleading and inaccurate.

There is a big number of eligible voters like me who like a little bit about what both McCain and Obama are saying. The question is—who will get my vote on Nov.4th

  153. Undecided,
I hate to say it, but if you haven’t made your mind up by now, why not?

You have one flawed candidate in McCain who has always served his country and will as President. Albeit, I know I don’t agree with McCain on a few things, but there has been nothing in his past or even mentioned by his opponent that yells out “ANTI-AMERICAN, SOCIALIST” to me.

On the other hand, you have an even further flawed candidate in Obama with no executive experience, little Congressional experience, a hidden past, ACORN doing his electoral (cheating) bidding, and almost all of his associates in the past, and some currently, are anti-American radicals.

HMMM…undecided seems strange at this point.

  154. Amazing that this doesn’t even TOUCH on education. And several other points where Obama could easily kick her butt.
    Not quite “unbiased”

    Try again?

  155. I can’t believe how moronic the left-wing liberal crowd can be. Were this site called sharpLEFTturn, we certainly wouldn’t come here expecting to find unbiased information, just information biased against the Republican candidate…

Sheesh, these idiots are 16 different kinds of stupid.

  156. OkieNeoCon,
Not only that, they dont’ get the point that it doesn’t take much to list all of the ways that Sarah Palin is much more qualified to run this country than Obama…that is the point.
And she is not running for President!

Many Americans see only what makes them FEEL good, and unfortunately for America, many of our peers want the big image and political correctness over substance, a love of America, and capitalism….simple as that!

  157. SRT, on foxnews.com there is a link to site called the Barack Obama Test. It measures your responses to questions on various issues against Obama’s public record, in speeches and votes. I really think if most of his supporters were honest when they took the test, they would find that he simply doesn’t understand Main Street America.

Here is the link – http://www.barackobamatest.com/?fuseaction=home.options

  158. wow good thing those questions werent loaded or anything… i love how okieneocon keeps talkin about how dumb we liberals are and keeps ignoring all the comments saying barack is a 9 11 terrorist… really guys??

    Step one
Remove Head and Bible from A^&
    Step two
Get f^&*ng educated and actually read that new testament
    Step three
Vote Barack Obama or bend back over and kiss that a^& AND bible goodbye

    (Expletives modified by SRT)

  159. I’ll respond directly to you…

As for how dumb the liberals are – If a liberal comes to this site, titled “SharpRightTurn, A Conservative View of News & Politics”, expecting to find an unbiased opinion they will be sadly disappointed. It would be like me going to DailyKos.com and expect to find opinions agreeing with Republican Conservatism. It’s asinine.

I ignore those posts linking Obama to 9/11 because I know them to be totally bogus. My being a Conservative Republican doesn’t mean I agree with the far-right wackos no more than you being a Liberal Democrat makes you a Communist.

As for the steps you propose:

Step 1) My head is squarely on my shoulders & Bible firmly in my hand, thank you very much…

Step 2) I’ve got that edukashun and have read the New Testament often enough to know that the responsibility for widows & orphans fall on the shoulders of the church, not under the umbrella of government…

Step 3) With a vote for Obama, the only things you’re kissing good-bye are a larger portion of that paycheck in order to cover the $800,000,000,000 of new annual spending he has lined up, along with a further erosion of freedom…

  160. One more thing.

My Grandpa used to tell me that when a man resorts to such flagrant vulgarity in normal conversation, it’s probably because his vocabulary is insufficient for intelligent discourse due to an intellect deficiency…

  161. Okie –

    Well said…thanks!

  162. You’re Welcome!!!

  163. Palin and McCain have been made Mockery of.
Palin all by herself, and well McCain, by Obama himself. Suck it up people, Obama is in the lead and he has cleaned the floor with those two idiots. Experience or no experience.

    Oops!

  164. Actually, Obama has a shrinking lead.

Of course, we all know what happened in 2000 and 2004 when the polls showed the Dems ahead at the last minute – vary large leads, I might add…

Had the MSM done their job, the questions surrounding Obama may have actually been answered. But, I suppose there’s a reason that job went undone.

  165. If Obama becomes the next President we will slowly but surely turn into a Socialist country…Obama-“spread the wealth”…. what happened to the American dream and earning you damn money!!

  166. I predict that Obama-Biden will recieve a mandate 4 November. Not because they are great but that McCain-Palin are so inferior.

McCain-Palin seem to believe all americans are as ignorant and the right winger. We aren’t. Your attacks and campaign rhetoric are extreme distortions, fabrications and outright lies.

Palin is a total joke. not actually qualified to be a Mayor much less a Governor. And VP or Pres!!!!!

A world leader – what a bunch of crap. McCain really showed his propensity to induce gimmicks instead of substance when he picked her.

Lets look more into the 2008 video to the AIP by S. Plain and membership by Todd Plain than Bill Ayers from the 60’s. Oh and who was it that McCain has been buddies with? Keeting, and some plumber in the watergate fiasco. That plumber is more important that some unlicensed ego claiming to be a plumber that owes back taxes and wouldn’t qualify to see tax increases under Obama.

I could go one but I hope you get my point. You have earned your losing spot in this campaign – enjoy it.

The RNC should dump the right wing (and Palin) and get back to doing what is best for the country.

  167. PS:

To the poster that says Obama means socialism. How about the $800+B just voted for by McCain. The biggest redistribution in history. Or the 1st stimulus package – redistribution or the 2nd package now being considered.

Does McCain consider them solcialism? If so then I guess that makes Bernake of the Fed and Pres Bush socialist – huh!

  168. Dan,
Typical liberal- NO facts to back your claims.

How much executive experience does Obama have? zero.

The Palins are not members of AIP currently. Sarah never has been…Todd was a few years ago. Obama has been close with Ayers for years. There is substantial proof of him sharing an office builidng, chairing the committee that Ayers appointed him to, and doling out money for radical school programs with his buddy Bill.

McCain was exonerated with Keating. Oh, and I guess you wish to overlook the fact that John Glenn (D) has actively campaigned for Obama and WAS found in the wrong with Keating.

The issue with the plumber is not the plumber, but Obama’s plan to “spread the wealth”. I guess you think it fine that no one investigate Obama’s radical past and associations and his judgement, but let one CITIZEN ask a question for which, in his answer, Obama reveals his true character and the citizen is mutilated in public and the remnants of his livelihood are left strewn across the media……Come on….are you that jaded by Obama’s ability to read a telemprompter?
(you kind of make the point in this piece about Obama’s blind worshippers who see only what makes them feel good!

As to your Socialism question….yes America is currently operating on a Socialist slippery slope. the bailout is a Socialist endeavor which should scare anybody who values our country and capitalism.
Bush was for the package. McCain voted for the package, but so did Obama.

HOWEVER, Obama has lied about his tax plan as tax “cuts” when what he is doing is raising taxes on ALL of those who pay them(60% of Americans) and moving that money to those who don’t (40% of Americans_.

If you wish for an America, that in 10 years or less, will have no motivation to work and and a government that believes in bringing everybody DOWN to a low level financially, then go ahead and cheerlead Socialism and your most high leader, Obama. He’ll get it done.

McCain is not planning to “spread the wealth” in his tax plans.

As far as your arrogant leftist gloating…..the race is not over….as much as the media and Obama would love for you to believe.

Your arrogance pretty much matches up to that of your Master Obama….if he wins…I hope you get all he has lined up for you…..:)

As for those of us who know better than to fall for his schtick….we’ll be fighting tooth and nail to save our Country, our Constitution, our traditions, and reverse the assault on Capitalism.

  169. […] same as Obama, so is Palin. They both have about the same work experience. Here’s a guy arguing Palin has more. Yet, all my friends see her as a nuclear weapon, just waiting for the right moment to blow us all […]

  170. […] opposition doesn’t have a VP candidate, but a PRESIDENTIAL candidate with less experience, period. Palin vs. Obama – Let’s talk about experience and background, shall we? Sharp Right Turn RealClearPolitics – Articles – Sarah Palin vs. Barack […]

  171. Once again, these idiots have nothing of consequence to say…and when they do say something, it makes absolutely no sense at all…

  172. Hell hath no fury OkieNeoCon.

You’re sounding like the idiot right about now. Keep it together, stay the course, and please, when Obama is elected, because he will be, try to remember what your grandpa told you about name calling.

  173. I was actually referring to the last 2 posts before mine. They have absolutely no substance and make no point. The author may as well have written – ;lkl;i asoibnasd908y2089 ;’kljnas;lk asd890y9py824ioh lkhj()*^)@#(*y ;LKNASL;NAS OA8SYHAOISEHF QPOIHQOPWIYHASFON’ijhqwoihpoih[oihwfnklas…

And as far as name calling, my Grandpa told me, “Son, you gotta always call it as you see it…”

  174. How can you make a list such as this without even looking at the candidates’ educational background?

FYI, Obama was a political science major at Columbia before receiving a law degree from Harvard. Palin transferred four times before eventually completing a bachelors in journalism at the University of Idaho.

  175. Trust me, a college degree, even from Columbia, doesn’t mean one is qualified for a given job…only that they are educated.

  176. OkieNeoCon –
I would even argue that a degree from Columbia or Harvard doesn’t even mean you are truly educated—just seeped and indoctrinated into the liberal, Socialistic, America-hating mindset spewed from the mouths of professors at those colleges.

  177. Leo,
Your just like all of the rest of the libs that have posted on this piece—-
You can’t argue the facts that Palin’s resume is much more complete and applicable to the Vice Presidency than Obama’s….

For the umpteenth time I’ve said this….this whole illustration points out that Palin is just as (actually more) qualified than Obama to PRESIDENT and she is only the VP candidate…..you libs holler about her so-called inexperience and eduation, but Obama’s resume is weaker than hers!

A law degree from Harvard does not a President make….and attending 3 or 4 colleges, but COMPLETING a degree and minor does not a failure make……

( I might also add that a Chicago thug mob indoctrination and “community organizing” certainly don’t make you qualified for the leader of the free world….actually it is works against him for the job of President!)

Get over your little liberal self, Leo.

  178. Point taken, SRT.

  179. Thank you for your site 😉
I made with photoshop backgrounds for myspace or youtube and even more
    my backgrounds:http://tinyurl.com/6kw9wq
Hope you had a good day and thank you again!

  180. Apparently, A law degree from Harvard DOES a President make.

  181. Oops…
Alot of vapid hopey changey rhetoric….and a historic economic crisis doesn’t hurt either.

  182. No, that law degree from Harvard had nothing to do with it.

It seems that $600,000,000 to buy an election does a President make…

  183. Okie-
    EXACTLY!

  184. Let me break this down for you…….

Harvard, 600,000,000, No experience, Palling around with terrorists, Marxist, socialist, Acorn etc.

All of the trappings of an ELECTED president.

You’re beating a dead horse. Move on.

  185. Oops,

In 4 yrs, when the masses are disillusioned because their taxes were increased, the government STILL isn’t paying for their health-care, and the economy is even FURTHER in the tank than it is now due to the reckless fiscal policy of Obama/Pelosi/Reid, people will be looking for another savior.

Thomas Jefferson said it best – The government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.

  186. Not only will the masses be paying higher taxes, have the same health care system we have now or possibly worse, they will have no retirement because the government wants our 401K retirement accounts. This was reported in the Wall Street Journal. Apparently average people can’t take care of their own retirement so the government with it’s overwhelming compassion for the people, wants to take, yes, TAKE our retirement and put it into social security funds. If this happens- not one of the lefties who have regularly posted on this site can respond with a straight face that we are not under the rule of a true SOCIALIST… It will be interesting to see just how many of the 52’s are happy about losing their retirement as their leader tells them “IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO” it’s just like sharing your PB&J sandwich- Question is- will there be any PB&J sandwiches left when YOU retire? Think about it.

  187. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for putting it so succinctly.

  188. And I suppose we are sooooo much better off after George W? Can you say with a straight face?

Stop with your pre-conceived notions about what the outcome will be. It’s our turn to screw it all up, you’ve had your chance.

  189. Your group screwed up the last two years of democrat controlled congress- OOPS seems quite appropriate for you!
I haven’t screwed anything up- I have no debt- I pay my bills and I own my home- I can read a contract before I sign it-I don’t need the government to take care of me- The government has no right to take money away from retirement accounts- You don’t seem to get that all of this money from bailouts has to come from somewhere- since you are for higher taxes- why don’t you go ahead and pay extra- the IRS doesn’t turn down money from anyone- since it is right to give what you have- go ahead and set an example for us all! I am all for charity- give plenty to my local churches- but to have it taken from me to give blindly to one big giant entity with no control- is ludicrous. I am not just against Obama’s policies, I am against all of congress for their out of control spending. So, don’t take my comments personally against your hero- I don’t like any of the idiots that are making decisions right now.

  190. chaitea4me-
I too “haven’t screwed anything up- I have no debt- I pay my bills and I own my home- I can read a contract before I sign it-I don’t need the government to take care of me.”

    Whats your point?

Here is what your Hero did: He invaded Iraq based on bogus intelligence and then mismanaged the war.

Did any of your dollars go to that?

  191. If you can’t read- that is your problem- President Bush is not my hero- never has been- your guy wants to penalize me and everyone else who has been responsible with their money- that is not fair- that is my point- sorry you can’t grasp that in your little mind. If you think only the top 5% income earners are able to pay for all that Obama has promised- you are living in fantasy land- we’ll see if you can actually live without the government by the time they are through with all of us. I suspect those who voted for THE ONE are looking for their own hand outs or bail outs as they are called now.

I am very happy about my tax dollars keeping our homeland secure- I honor President Bush for that. No attacks here since 9-11-01- that’s a good thing.

  192. Your argument is old and pre-election. Move On.

  193. I think it is the other way around- you have no ideas other than change- that is all you had in the past and all you have now- guess your collective couldn’t tell you anything new to comeback with-
the truth is- your guy wants to change the USA into a socialist country that resembles Europe- this will be a very rocky 4 years- but that is only for the folks who actually have something to lose- like jobs, retirement, financial independence- given your views (or the collective) doubt you will have anything to worry about until the rest of us have nothing for you to suck off of.
    MOVE ON INDEED

  194. […] The movie meticulously documents each media fuck up line by line. When Palin was inexperienced, Obama was fresh. When people dared to bring up Reverend Wright, Anderson Cooper would shoot it down as irrelevant […]
