Free Speech? Here’s a dose of what we would see with “President Obama”…

The conservative group, American Issues Project, has produced an ad tying Barack Obama to 60’s radical (and present day thug) William Ayers.  The ad points out Ayers radical war waged against America in the 60’s along with Obama’s comments that Ayers is “mainstream” and “respectable”!

Obama is taking his “Chicago-style” approach and trying to silence the ad by intimidating TV stations and also by trying to involve the Justice Department….I kid you not!

Here’s the ad:

I guess when that facade of “touchy-feely-hopey-changey” is lifted up and exposed, our true actions will shine through….can you say First Amendement rights?  Can you say lefty Democratic candidate trying to silence those who would expose his background?

Barack Obama said long ago (I forget where or when I heard him say it) that he thought John Kerry had not fought back hard enough or quick enough against the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.  (Never mind that the Swift Boat Veterans had truth on their side).

It seems to me that Obama remembers that thought and is working hard and quickly to silence anyone that dares bring up a TRUTH about him….

From Breitbart:

Fox News and CNN have declined to air the anti-Obama ad. But by Monday afternoon, the ad had run about 150 times in local markets in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and Michigan, according to Evan Tracey, head of TNS Media Intelligence/Campaign Media Analysis Group, an ad tracking firm.

Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said Obama supporters have inundated stations that are airing the ad, many of them owned by Sinclair Communications, with 93,000 e-mails. He called the ad false, despicable and outrageous.

Other stations that follow Sinclair’s lead should expect a similar response from people who don’t want the political discourse cheapened with these false, negative attacks,” Vietor said.

Mr. Vietor, explain what is false and negative in those ads?

More from Breitbart:

In the Obama campaign’s own response ad, an announcer states: “With all our problems, why is John McCain talking about the 60s, trying to link Barack Obama to radical Bill Ayers. McCain knows Obama denounced Ayers’ crimes, committed when Obama was just 8 years old.”

The McCain campaign cannot coordinate efforts with outside groups. But the campaign took advantage of being the target of the response ad.

“The fact that Barack Obama chose to launch his political career at the home of an unrepentant terrorist raises more questions about Senator Obama’s judgment than any TV ad ever could,” said McCain spokesman Brian Rogers.

  1. I would say that both liberals and conservative type people – politicians and private citizens- have a few bad habits. The first one is twisting the truth. The second one is whining when the truth is twisted and tattling. Honestly, I have refused to watch a single political ad – for either side. I think that out of all media outlets, television is the easiest to manipulate – both the truth and emotions. I suppose it’s the super nerd in me, but I just choose to browse the public congress documents and transcripts from meetings. About as television as I get is keeping CSPAN on.

  2. amberpeace,
If I had the time and patience, I might read my “news” in the places that you do. I do get tired of all of the talking heads on TV and never really sure what version of a story I am getting.

I agree all politicians are masters at telling a story to benefits themselves. One reason I read blogs is to see the sides of any issue or statement made. I have no problem with ads as long as they have facts.

From all I’ve read, there is not a fact one in that ad that can be refuted successfully by Obama.

  3. One of the absolutely best resources to use, if you want something that you can look at by your timeframe (and say, not waiting for the next headline to pop up on a news channel) is the FEC. These are straight up, 2+2 = 4 kind of disclosures without anyone saying “Well id did say/do this BUT…”

And then of course you have the Congressional Report which is the transcriptions of every day that anyone in congress meets.

  4. Oh, if you look up the William Ayers you’re talking about – he may have given through a corporation, but the FEC has no record of him giving at all this year to anyone 😉

  5. amberpeace,
This ad doesn’t mention anything about William Ayers giving money to Obama.

The facts are Ayers is a domestic terrorist who plotted against America in the 60’s and then said he “didn’t do enough”. He’s is someone who claimed himself to have helped in bombing a police station and the Capitol. In other words, a violent man snubbing his nose at the law and his country.
    .
He was leader of Weather Underground and a fugitive of the law for years.
    This stuff is well documented.

Barack Obama launched his Illinois Senate campaign in the home of William Ayers and his wife Bernardine Doern (herself a terrorist and fugitve and self-proclaimed admirer of Charles Manson) in the 90’s. That indicates a cozy relationship with the man at best.

Obama also served on an “education board” of sorts with Ayers for many years in Chicago. The documents regarding this “board” have just been released after being locked up by the University of Chicago-Illinois…..locked up only after an interested researcher/reporter wanted to see the papers.

Obama has tried to push Ayers off as “just someone who lives in my neighborhood”…..not very honest about that.

Those are all facts that can’t be refuted…..and I think that is why Obama is trying his best to silence those who want to investigate further the truth of Obama’s relationship with this man who is an unrepentant anti-American thug.

  6. SRT,

Ayres didn’t just “plot against America”, he took an active role in MANY terrorist activities, including the bombings of police stations, the Capitol, and the Pentagon.

  7. A note on the first amendment: campaign finance law, the law that renders this American Issues ad illegal, is a content-neutral restriction on the right to free-speech, and wholly comports with the first amendment. Conservatives love to selectively invoke the first amendment, but it’s not a selective right; nor is the rule of law.

  8. “Conservatives love to selectively invoke the first amendment, but it’s not a selective right; nor is the rule of law.”

Excuse me…but what the heck are you talking about? You are either really smart or really dumb. Would you care to break that sentence down a bit more for us?

Just because there is a “law” by no means makes it “Constitutional”. Laws, sometimes long established ones, are overturned all the time.

I realize that the “freedom of speech” discussed in the Bill of Rights is not absolute, but political speech was primarily what the Founders were talking about in the First Amendment. IF this ad actually runs afoul of Federal campaign finance law, then that is a law that needs to be challenged…and now.
