Obama gets heated when asked by CBN (Christan Broadcasting Newtork) about the Born Alive Protection Act.

Read and listen for yourself at Little Green Footballs.

You may remember that Obama was asked at the Saddleback Church Presidential Forum the question “when does an unborn baby get human rights?”  Obama’s answer? “It’s above my pay grade”

In the CBN intereview, Obama tried to say that those who have pointed out his vote AGAINST babies born alive are lying.

Well, I’ve blogged this before and there are others who have information about the Illinois Bill and the Federal Bill that he references below.

Bottom line, he said he voted against the Illinois bill because it would harm Roe vs. Wade.  (so much for reducing abortions, huh, Obama?) but supports the similiar Federal Bill.,,,

Well and because they have not been telling the truth. And I hate to say that people are lying, but here’s a situation where folks are lying. I have said repeatedly that I would have been completely in, fully in support of the federal bill that everybody supported – which was to say —that you should provide assistance to any infant that was born – even if it was as a consequence of an induced abortion. That was not the bill that was presented at the state level. What that bill also was doing was trying to undermine Roe vs. Wade.

He says he was for the Federal Bill which was identical to the Illinois Bill that he voted against.  Sounds like a lot of talking about of both sides of the mouth to cover your tracks to me….

What kind of callous liberal (repetitive I know) does it take to say you voted against a bill to save the lives of babies in order to protect an established law to end the life of babies then turn around and say you were for a bill to save babies all along??

I have trouble with the moral logic (or any kind of logic) there….. You are either strongly in the corner of babies or you are strongly in the corner of killing them.   This is a black and white issue.

Obama’s approach is, in the words of the Drive-By Media, “nuanced” as always…..Obama was for babies living before he was against them living before he was for them living…..and he has believed in reducing abortions all along while supporting Roe vs. Wade to the point of killing babies!

Decipher that if you can….I am pretty convinced that all of this IS “above Obama’s paygrade”!

UPDATE 8/18/08: Apparently Obama’s campaign now acknowledges that Obama lied about Lifers lying.  The state bill he would not sign DID have a part in it protecting Roe V. Wade….Obama knew that, but the truth didn’t matter…from RedState:

NRLC provided a side by side comparison of the federal and state statutes and proved conclusively that the state statute did have “language clarifying that the act would not be used to undermine Roe v. Wade.” Nonetheless, Obama voted against it…….

………Yesterday, Obama’s campaign admits that NRLC was telling the truth.

His campaign yesterday acknowledged that he had voted against an identical bill in the state Senate, and a spokesman, Hari Sevugan, said the senator and other lawmakers had concerns that even as worded, the legislation could have undermined existing Illinois abortion law.

(end of update)

One other great point about the “above my paygrade” answer.  My husband and I were talking about this yesterday.   It did actually occur to me during the forum that Obama made a strange attempt to imply that this point is up to God.  My husband correctly pointed out that if you are talking about when life begins that may be an accurate way to answer….HOWEVER, the question was about when a baby’s rights begin….my husband correctly pointed out that is a decision for man to make.

I might add that Obama does that all of the time (sometimes he’s right, sometimes he’s wrong).  Obama believes it his role to determine a woman’s rights to choose, a prisoner’s on Death Row’s right to live, or a human’s right not to live in slavery, as examples.

It was completely in his pay grade and his job description to answer that question about a baby’s rights clearly…..he can’t and he didn’t!

Another bit of info on this at Althouse….a nice piece on this issue (she is an attorney).

  1. There is something else Obama fails to mention about the Illinois bill. He wants to have everyone believe he didn’t support the bill because it didn’t contain the wording of the Federal bill. What he fails to mention is the fact that he is the one that prevented his committee from adding the wording to the Illinois bill.

  2. Larry,
    Good point!

  3. There are so many things that are above his pay grade that they are too numerous to mention. Look for him to chose the Virginia Gov as his running mate–why? He is the only possibility that is actually less experienced than he is. He was a city mayor and has been a gov. for less than 2 years. So we will have a mayor and a community leader running our Country if he is elected–awesome!
