More Depravity on Parade….with Blaspheme as Grand Marshal!

I don’t know how anyone defends this need to parade one’s warped sexuality, anti-Christian bigoted bias, and downright immature peep show in the name of community service?  And do it all on Easter Sunday!?!?

View pics and info on the Hunky Jesus Contest held on Easter Sunday in, you guessed it, San Francisco.  Link to full story here.  Another picture and info here at the Catskill Commentator.  (I can’t bring myself to include the pictures on my blog!)

San Franciscans have flocked to Dolores Park in the city to compete in, or watch, what has become an Easter Sunday tradition – the “Hunky Jesus” competition.

………….the contest pits costumed and usually scantily clad men against each other for the distinction of being declared the most attractive Jesus.

Catholics have labelled the annual pageant blasphemous, considering that previous entrants have included “old school Jesus”, “surfer Jesus” and “zombie Jesus”, an irreverent take on the Easter message of Christ rising from the dead.

Well, let me introduce you to group that started this mockery — the Sisters of Perpetucal Indulgence, a drag queen group started in 1979 to — in my words — flaunt their homosexuality, tear down and mock Christians, and celebrate their warped view of the world together…..and they claim to do it all in the name of tolerance and helping others.

From their website:

Unlike more traditional nuns, we are an Order of many faiths, religions and beliefs. However we are all united by the vows that each of us take: to promulgate universal joy, expiate stigmatic guilt and serve the community, our fellow Sisters and the Order of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

Promulgate, Expiate, and Stigmatic are pretty big words for the Sisters of Perpetual Perversion to be using……and not the words that come to my mind when I see this type of depravity.

How about disgusting, childish, blasphemous, sinful, mocking, distasteful, perverted, foolish, intolerant, sick?…..not enough words to describe it…..

Psalms 74:18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.

  1. “The Sisters” are nothing new… They are coming up on 30 years of this sad, sad act… And I can pretty much promise you that few if any of the founders of it are still around. The health of the community they serve has been deplorable. And they just don’t get it.

It has nothing to do with us (Catholics) the ones they mock… Well, I guess it has something to do with it in the sense that by living completely opposite of Catholic wisdom on the matter, it has only lead to deterioration. We can’t be blamed for that.

They hate us more than anyone for the simple fact that unlike Episcopalians and some of the other mainline and “community” churches they can infiltrate and change the teachings on, they simply cannot with us. As a result – even if the liberal Catholic parishes are silent – the teaching is still KNOWN. And they hate that.

I expect this sad group to continue this behavior… If for no other reason that the membership that finally “gets it” probably does so on their death bed. If you go to their homepage you can see “in memorium” tributes to so many members who have passed away from diseases related to what they protest for. One can only hope and pray that in those final days of suffering, they realized the error of it all as they may have taken the occasion to ponder “what if…?”

  2. asimplesinner,
Well said! I like your viewpoint. Thanks for commenting.

  3. They may live opposite of some Catholic wisdom, but not opposite to the wisdom expressed by Christ.
They are a charity that promotes human rights, and donates to AIDS charities. Is it wrong to give to AIDS charities?:
It is easy to mock them. It’s a little tougher to look deeper and see what they truly stand for.

  4. thismomentnow you are correct

that which you have done for the least of my brothers so you have done for me.

  5. thismomentnow,
Christ teaches us to give and especially to help those with less and those in need….I agree with you about that. (And that includes helping anyone with disease including AIDS)
I do disagree that their anti-Christian display on Easter Sunday was done within the wisdom of Christ. The Bible does not condone homosexuality and the Bible condemns blaspheme.

In regards to the last lines you wrote:

It is easy to mock them. It’s a little tougher to look deeper and see what they truly stand for.

I could easily say the same thing right back to those, who over Easter weekend, were MOCKING the Lord Jesus Christ and mocking what I, as a Christian, stand for.
    Thanks for commenting.

THAT pretty much says it ALL!

Your logic collapses in on itself under the weight of the logical fallacy of the false dichotomy.

No one said that the Catholic Church teaches it is wrong to aid the dying. You will find a number of Catholic hospices and hospitals that generously care for the dying – no matter what they are dying of.

That as the case may be it is a false dichotomy to say “Either you support charity – however it is accomplished, even to the point of mocking grand institutions (what did the good sisters do to deserve that???) or you are not being Christian!”

If the ends justifies the means than any group with any fetish rasining money for a good cause in any fashion is acceptable so long as their is money for a good cause at the end.

Dare I suggest that the cash spent on creating these garish and mocking outfits would have been better spent on the hospice care?

The “sisters” were – until called out on the blogosphere – renting the hall of Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish (on Castro Street in SF) to hold bingo fundraisers where prizes included dildos and pornography. Pornography is exploitation at so many levels, dare I suggest that we can’t overlook that just because it is a “prize” in a fundraiser?

These men are using this “charity” to mock the Catholic faith and no amount of donating the proceeds changes or justifies that.

There is a sub-culture of folks who have a nazi clothing fetish… If those folks gathered in their SS uniforms waving swatikas at a festival and then donated the proceeds to the Anti-Defamation League or a Jewish charity, would that make it “all good?”

This is meant to mock, taunt and denigrate.

  8. asimplesinner,
    Again, well put!

  9. Nothing brings out the comments like the homo stories!

  10. Careful GBS – I just want people to know the truth and have an opportunity to grow in it… Always make sure you don’t sound insulting, even when folks like “the sisters” are doing nothing but casting insults.

There was this gopher/clerk/all-round-helper at an office where I worked just barely 21 and recovering from an insane meth addiction that started when he was 16… And was HIV+ and a veteran of bathhouses and public sex spots (rest stops, parks) by age 19. He had a lot of questions about religion that he would come up and ask me after he found out I went to Mass every day at lunch and we would talk about it from time to time… He was convinced at first that I hated him because I was Catholic.

    Nothin doin!

I don’t hate anyone. It is an act of love to point out to people that this lifestyle just is not healthy anyway you slice it.
