Memorial Day Remembrance

World War II American Cemetery in Normandy, France.

I am remembering today those who have fallen so that we may have freedom.  We owe a debt we can never fully repay.  We must make sure that their lives were not lost in vain.  It is up to us keep Freedom’s Light burning.

God Bless those who gave it all and those who are willing everyday to make the ultimate sacrifice.

America loves you all.

Palin hammers home Obama’s incompetence on oil spill

Today Obama finally held a press conference after 300+ days since the last one. Of course, it contained the obligatory “Bush’s fault”, “not my fault”, and a dig at Sarah Palin.

Obama had this to say today about “Drill, Baby, Drill“:

“The fact that oil companies now have to go a mile under water and then drill another three miles below that in order to hit oil tells us something about the direction of the oil industry. Extraction is more expensive and it is going to be inherently more risky. And so that’s part of the reason you never heard me say, ‘Drill, baby, drill!

Not only is this a slam at Palin and her sensible stance that we must drill in order eliminate the need to be beholden to foreign oil, but he also mischaracterizes WHY oil companies have been forced to drill 50 miles off the coast.  It’s for the same reasons they can’t drill in ANWR and domestically…the environmentalist lobby.

Back to Palin….she doesn’t take anything that President “Plug the D*%m Hole” Obama says while sitting down.   Palin added this Facebook post this evening, just hours after Obama’s press conference and his attack on Palin:

Nearly 40 days in, our President finally addressed the American people’s growing concerns about the Gulf Coast oil spill. Listening to today’s press conference, you’d think the administration has been working with single-minded focus on the Gulf gusher since the start of the disaster. In reality, their focus has been anything but singular to help solve this monumental problem.

Then Sarah Palin asks:

If the President really was fully focused on this issue from day one, why did it take nine whole days before the administration asked the Department of Defense for help in deploying equipment needed for the extreme depth spill site?

Why was the expert group assembled by Energy Commissioner Steven Chu only set up three weeks after the start of this disaster?

Why was Governor Jindal forced more than a month after the start of the disaster to go on national television to beg for materials needed to tackle the oil spill and for federal approval to build offshore sand barriers that are imperative to protect his state’s coastline?

Why was no mention of the spill made by our President for days on end while Americans waited to hear if he grasped the import of his leadership on this energy issue?

Why have several countries and competent organizations who offered help or expertise in dealing with the spill not even received a response back from the Unified Area Command to this day?

And more of Palin laying the wood to Obama….

Listening to the President, you get the impression he is continually surprised by the inability of various centralized government agencies to get more involved and help solve problems. His lack of executive experience might explain this because he is apparently unaware that it’s his job as a chief executive to make sure they do their jobs and help solve problems.

The fundamental problem at the core of this crisis is a lack of responsibility. (I risk the President taking my comments personally, but they’re not intended to be personal; my comments reflect what many others feel, and we just want to help him tackle this enormous spill problem.) There’s a culture of buck-passing at the heart of this administration that has caused the tragedy of a sunken oil rig to turn into a potential disaster.

The 1990 Oil Pollution Act was drafted in response to the Exxon-Valdez spill in my home state. It created new procedures for offshore cleanups, specifically putting the federal government in charge of such operations. The President should have used the authority granted by the OPA – immediately – to take control of the situation. That is a big part of what the OPA is for – to designate who is in charge so finger-pointing won’t disrupt efforts to just “plug the d#*! hole.” But instead of immediately engaging with this crisis, our President chose to spend precious time on political pet causes like haranguing the state of Arizona for doing what he himself was supposed to do – secure the nation’s border. He also spent much time fundraising and politicking for liberal candidates and causes while we waited for him to grasp the enormity of the Gulf spill.

Now that the American people are calling him out on his lack of engagement with this disaster, the buck-passing is in full swing – and, unbelievably, his administration is still looking to blame his predecessor. Amazingly, even those of us who support energy independence for America are the brunt of some buck-passing.

He suggested today that a “culture of corruption” at the U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS) was solely the previous administration’s responsibility and that the failure of the inspection system was a failure of that administration. That is false. The MMS has been his responsibility since January 20, 2009.

The MMS director who resigned today, Elizabeth Birnbaum, was appointed by his administration. And the most recent inspection of the oil rig took place a mere 10 days before the explosion – also very much on his watch, not President Bush’s.

You can read the rest of her post here including her calls for what should be done.

Go Palin!

Politics in Pageant? Miss Oklahoma supports Arizona law comes in 2nd to Miss Michigan, Hezbollah-supporter

Of course, no one should be surprised about politics in a Miss USA pageant.  It’s just that it used to be more behind the scenes.  Now it seems to be the basis upon which you are chosen

Miss Oklahoma Morgan Elizabeth Woolard, Miss USA First Runner-Up

Last night Miss Oklahoma, in her Q&A, clearly answered a loaded political question in support of the Arizona immigration law and state’s rights.  Even though she was odds-on favorite to win, she was then chosen first runner up ….to the winner, Miss Michigan, Muslim and “Arab-American”, who reportedly has ties to or supports Hezbollah.

Miss Michigan almost fell down on stage, yet still won the pageant.  I guess political correctness long ago overtook grace as a factor in these pageants?!?

Oh, and Miss Michigan also gave a politically correct answer about healthcare-funded birth control….it is OK, she believes, because it is “so costly”.

From FoxNews

During the interview portion, Fakih was also asked a question on a hot-button issue. She was asked whether she thought birth control should be paid for by health insurance, and she said she believed it should because it’s costly.

“I believe that birth control is just like every other medication, even though it’s a controlled substance,” Fakih said.

Michelle Malkin is even more clear about the “gaffetastic” Miss Michigan :

She nearly tripped over her gown.

She called birth control a “controlled substance.”

She argued that contraceptives should be covered by health insurers because they are “expensive” — and then said you could get them for “free” from your OB/GYN’s office……

…..Does this woman know what a “controlled substance” is?

More importantly: Does she even comprehend the concept of insurance? The purpose of insurance isn’t to cover every last medical expense. It’s supposed to cover events that are beyond your control. Should auto insurers now cover oil changes and satellite radio installations? I mean, hey, they’re “expensive,” too!

More on the blatant political question, which seems to be a re-run of last year’s pageant:

Miss Oklahoma Morgan Elizabeth Woolard was a top contestant for the Miss USA crown this year. But, after she came out in support of the Arizona immigration law she was forced to take a back seat to Miss Michigan. Miss Oklahoma was runner up in this year’s competition.

Here is how she handled the toughest political question of the night:

Apparently, although a great majority of Americans (62-73%) agree with her, the judges didn’t like her answer. She placed second.

Instead, Miss Michigan Rima Fakih, an Arab American whose family reportedly has strong ties to the Hezbollah terror organization, won the crown.

HMMMM….

As one commenter at Gateway Pundit put it

Miss Fakih should have been asked how she as a muslim woman can support a religion where women are treated like animals. Why do only conservative women get asked political questions and then punished for their opinions?

Kudos to Miss Oklahoma for supporting, under stress, the Arizona Immigration law!

Obama Corruption now tied to BP oil spill?

BP Oil rig explosion in Gulf 4-22-10 (AP Photo)

Of course, Obama gets a pass from the media and kool-aid drinking left when it comes to this BP oil spill.  The timelines of events surrounding the non-action of the Obama administration regarding the oil spill are well documented.

On a day when revelations that the president’s administration partnered with BP in withholding  from the American people damaging pictures/video of the amount of leakage, Obama is off playing basketball this morning (and not attending church, like the “good Christian” example that he is) a day after playing golf.

Would Bush have gotten such a pass?  NO.

Today it was revealed that the Obama administration worked with BP to withhold the video of the plume of oil being discharged into the Gulf.  Estimates for the amount of leakage apparently were clearly underestimated (on purpose?).   These videos have been available for over 3 weeks.

But is there more to this coverup than just withholding video?  Some suspected it shortly after the spill…and today’s information seems to lend credence to the idea that Obama has been colluding with BP to cover up the extent of the damage and hide the incompetence of the Obama adminstration on this issue.

From OilPrice.com’s article , The Cover-up: BP’s Crude Politics and the Looming Environmental Mega-Disaster“:

WMR has been informed by sources in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Florida Department of Environmental Protection that the Obama White House and British Petroleum (BP), which pumped $71,000 into Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign – more than John McCain or Hillary Clinton, are covering up the magnitude of the volcanic-level oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and working together to limit BP’s liability for damage caused by what can be called a “mega-disaster.”

Obama and his senior White House staff, as well as Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, are working with BP’s chief executive officer Tony Hayward on legislation that would raise the cap on liability for damage claims from those affected by the oil disaster from $75 million to $10 billion. However, WMR’s federal and Gulf state sources are reporting the disaster has the real potential cost of at least $1 trillion. Critics of the deal being worked out between Obama and Hayward point out that $10 billion is a mere drop in the bucket for a trillion dollar disaster but also note that BP, if its assets were nationalized, could fetch almost a trillion dollars for compensation purposes. There is talk in some government circles, including FEMA, of the need to nationalize BP in order to compensate those who will ultimately be affected by the worst oil disaster in the history of the world.

Nationalization of BP?  Makes one wonder, even at the risk of being accused of wearing a tin foil hat, just how accidental this spill was!  Especially considering that BP’s largest recipient of campaign cash was Barack Obama.

Either way, I guess Rahm Emanuel’s creed “never let a crisis go to waste” may very well be in play here.

More cover-up:

Plans by BP to sink a 4-story containment dome over the oil gushing from a gaping chasm one kilometer below the surface of the Gulf, where the oil rig Deepwater Horizon exploded and killed 11 workers on April 20, and reports that one of the leaks has been contained is pure public relations disinformation designed to avoid panic and demands for greater action by the Obama administration, according to FEMA and Corps of Engineers sources. Sources within these agencies say the White House has been resisting releasing any “damaging information” about the oil disaster. They add that if the ocean oil geyser is not stopped within 90 days, there will be irreversible damage to the marine eco-systems of the Gulf of Mexico, north Atlantic Ocean, and beyond. At best, some Corps of Engineers experts say it could take two years to cement the chasm on the floor of the Gulf.

And why hasn’t much of this been made public?  Some believe that it was declared a National Security Issue so that much of the information could be contained:

Only after the magnitude of the disaster became evident did Obama order Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to declare the oil disaster a “national security issue.” Although the Coast Guard and FEMA are part of her department, Napolitano’s actual reasoning for invoking national security was to block media coverage of the immensity of the disaster that is unfolding for the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean and their coastlines…..

…….There is other satellite imagery being withheld by the Obama administration that shows what lies under the gaping chasm spewing oil at an ever-alarming rate is a cavern estimated to be around the size of Mount Everest. This information has been given an almost national security-level classification to keep it from the public, according to our sources.

But that’s not all….Obama tries to blame Bush for all of the woes of the world, particularly where oil is involved.  But the Obama adminstration, approved the drilling plan for this rig and many others without proper permitting.  From the New York Times:

The federal Minerals Management Service gave permission to BP and dozens of other oil companies to drill in the Gulf of Mexico without first getting required permits from another agency that assesses threats to endangered species — and despite strong warnings from that agency about the impact the drilling was likely to have on the gulf.

Those approvals, federal records show, include one for the well drilled by the Deepwater Horizon rig, which exploded on April 20, killing 11 workers and resulting in thousands of barrels of oil spilling into the gulf each day…..

…… It (NOAA) has said on repeated occasions that drilling in the gulf affects these animals, but the minerals agency since January 2009 has approved at least three huge lease sales, 103 seismic blasting projects and 346 drilling plans. Agency records also show that permission for those projects and plans was granted without getting the permits required under federal law.

Who became President in January 2009?  Oh, yes, Obama….these plans were approved on Obama’s watch, not Bush’s!

So when you see Obama feign anger about the spill and chastise BP for the spill and damage, just remember the lack of permitting, video cover-up with BP, using “national security” to cover up the issues, and the cold, hard campaign cash Obama received from BP!

Immigration Reform in Oklahoma helped keep unemployment lower

Contrary to the rhetoric of open borders propagandists, the media, and many pro-amnesty groups regarding the new Arizona law, immigration reform including laws restricting illegal immigration do work!

And in the midst of a major unemployment disaster, made worse with Obama’s policies, come to find out there ARE jobs that Americans WILL do that illegals currently hold.

For some statistical proof of the results of immigration reform you need look no further than the Sooner State: Oklahoma.

From PajamasMedia:

Given the economic damage inflicted on us by the current administration and many state governments, most readers of this column would probably be quite happy to live in a state where:

• The official unemployment rate in March was 6.6%.

• The average unemployment rate in 2009 using the most comprehensive definition was 10.5%, the fourth-lowest in the nation (behind three much smaller states), and far lower than the national average of 16.2%.

• The number of people either working or looking for work has actually grown during the past twelve months (in most states, the labor force has contracted significantly).

• The economy grew in 2008, and probably did so again in 2009.

Unless you live in Oklahoma, you’re not in that state.

What did Oklahoma do about illegal immigration?

It “just so happens” that the Sooner State passed a strict immigration enforcement measure in May 2007, which went into effect six months later. Specifically:

House Bill 1804 was passed by overwhelming majorities in both the House and Senate of the Oklahoma legislature. The measure’s sponsor, State Representative Randy Terrill, says the bill has four main topical areas: it deals with identity theft; it terminates public assistance benefits to illegals; it empowers state and local police to enforce federal immigration laws; and it punishes employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens.

Oklahoma is no longer “O.K.” for illegal aliens, Terrill observes. “When you put everything together in context,” he contends, “the bottom line is illegal aliens will not come here if there are no jobs waiting for them, they will not stay here if there is no government subsidy, and they certainly won’t stay here if they know that if they ever encounter our state and local law enforcement officers, they will be physically detained until they’re deported. And that’s exactly what House Bill 1804 does.”

Just how has Oklahoma fared since the passage of 1804, despite the recession?

Uncle Sam’s Bureau of Economic Analysis reports that the state’s economy grew by 2.7% in 2008, a performance that puts it in the top ten among all states in a year when the national economy only grew by 0.4%. Additionally, information from the Census Bureau shows that the state’s population increased by just under 75,000, or 2%, between July 2007 and July 2009 — in line with the country as a whole. If those results are “painful,” I wonder how Ms. Kohn would characterize what’s going on in Michigan and California? The Sooner State’s economic indicators are comparatively positive just about anywhere one looks. Per capita personal income in Oklahoma grew 2.8% between 2007 and 2009; nationally, it fell by 0.7%. The state’s already puny welfare caseload dropped by 11% in 2007 to under 19,000, and stayed there until June 2009. The number of SNAP/Food Stamp recipients in Oklahoma fell in both 2007 and 2008 by a combined 3.8% while rising 6.5% nationally.Loosened eligibility rules allowing those who don’t really need them and even college-aged children of the well-off to qualify have since made the SNAP/Food Stamp program an unreliable indicator of the true extent of poverty. Oklahoma does have a budget problem that bears watching, but so does the large majority of other states.

Use the Oklahoma example next time the vote-seeking politicians and the “reconquistas” imply that this is not your country and  tell you any differently about enforcing our immigration laws and stripping away “benefits” for those here illegally.

U.S. posts 19th straight monthly budget deficit — The new normal?

The new normal at least until we become Greece.

From Reuters:

It was more than twice the $40-billion deficit that Wall Street economists surveyed by Reuters had forecast and was striking since April marks the filing deadline for individual income taxes that are the main source of government revenue.

Department officials said that in prior years, there was a surplus during April in 43 out of the past 56 years.

The government has now posted 19 consecutive monthly budget deficits, the longest string of shortfalls on record.

For the first seven months of fiscal 2010, which ends September 30, the cumulative budget deficit totals $799.68 billion, down slightly from $802.3 billion in the comparable period of fiscal 2009.

Outlays during April rose to $327.96 billion from $218.75 billion in March and were up from $287.11 billion in April 2009. It was a record level of outlays for an April.

Some interesting thoughts that crossed my brain today….

I don’t always have time to write, link, and do justice to so many of the issues that exist in our country and politics today.

So today I am summarizing a few things that have creeped into my brain over the last few days.  Perhaps some of you can answer and discuss……

Why don’t the so-called 9-11 truthers concentrate less on ignorant theories that the government exploded the World Trade Center and focus more on the deficits and debt explosion of this government?

Why do the NFL (and MSM and Hollywood and liberals, in general) give a pass to, if not practically cheer for, those sports stars and others who’ve had 121 adulterous partners, raped underage girls, mutilated dogs for fun, and more…..while they show contempt for a wholesome, “saving himself” leader such as Tim Tebow?

Why is it that the so-called “tolerant” MSM and liberals are laser-focused on the sexual preference of Supreme Court nominee, Elena Kagan, while those on the right are not?

Similarly, if Elena Kagan believes that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is so wrong in the military, why won’t she clearly state whether she is (or isn’t) a homosexual?

How is it that we always hear about “peaceful and tolerant Muslims” but we never see or hear them?  Is it because the “peaceful” cower to the violence or because the “peaceful Muslim” is non-existent but the “radical” Muslim slithers among us?

If Arizona, as of today’s signing by Governor Brewer, has a law that outlaws teaching children about the “overthrow of the US Government“, does that mean that if Obama’s is successful in imposing his ideological agenda on America that they won’t be able to learn about our 44th President in Arizona in the future?

What do you think?

Happy Mother’s Day!

“For the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.” — William Ross Wallace

Happy Mother’s Day !

I can honestly say from experience that almost nothing changes your life like becoming a mother.

The idle time turns into diapers and bottles.  Business meetings into “push me on the swing, mom”.  A full night’s sleep turns into “Mommy, I’m scared.”

And a so-called tough lady on the outside turns into a mom who cries at the drop of a hat.

And I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Something to consider: A snapshot-in-time of YOUR country

As I’ve read and listened to the new just over the last several days, I just keep wondering what our country is and has been transforming to.

As I’ve stated before, I no longer believe the fight in this country is between Republicans and Democrats or liberals vs. conservatives, per se. I believe our fight is clearly one on many fronts: good vs. evil, anti-Capitalists vs. Capitalists, immoral vs. moral, and haters-of-Americans vs. America lovers, and freedom suppressors vs. freedom lovers. This includes clear assaults on our markets, upon Christians, upon patriots, our military, and our system of laws.

Much of the most recent news gives a great glimpse into the country we are becoming and have become. As you read these examples, think to yourself if this is the country you want now and one you wish to leave to your kids and grandkids.

We’ve sat on the sidelines for far too long while we’ve allowed these assaults on our institutions to fester and grow. It is a sad state of affairs.  And the current administration and Congress has done virtually nothing to make it better and almost everything to make it worse.

I give you, my fellow citizens, a snapshot of your country in the Spring, 2010:

Patriotism no longer accepted:  Students sent home for wearing American flag to school on Cinco de Mayo

Students from Live Oak School in California

A group of California students who dared to wear the American flag on Cinco de Mayo learned a hard lesson about the corruption of citizenship and sovereignty this week.

They were sent home for their show of U.S. patriotism.

No bounds to immorality and perversion:  It’s official: Cher’s gender-swap son Chaz Bono is legally a man   The disgusting details:

Chaz Bono as man....formerly Chastity Bono

Bono started undergoing gender-reassignment surgery in March 2009 – soon after turning 40.

In an interview last year, he said undergoing the surgery was ‘the best decision I’ve ever made’.

He said: ‘I feel so much more comfortable than I’ve ever been.

‘I’ve felt male as far back as I can remember. Life is short and life is precious. This is who I am. I need to finally be who I am.’

He explained that the entire  transition from female to male will take about four to five years.

So far, his breasts have been removed and he has received hormone treatments to deepen his voice. And to his delight, he now has to shave his face.

As one commenter in the news article stated clearly:

What should be discussed as a psychiatric disorder is instead being celebrated, at least by this nutty girl and a few like-minded gawkers.

And another:

“Anyone can be confused and uncomfortable, have pieces removed and foreign pieces sewn on, and take hormones to change all sorts of things. It does not change what you were created to be. It only creates an illusion.”

Intolerance of Christianity and free speech:  National Day of Prayer ruled unconstitutional  & Franklin Graham disinvited to speak at Prayer event because of his views on Islam

Evangelist Franklin Graham prayed on a sidewalk outside the Pentagon Thursday after his invitation to a prayer service inside was withdrawn because of comments that insulted Muslims.

“It looks like Islam has gotten a pass,” he told reporters. “They are able to have their services, but just because I disagree … I’m excluded.”

Franklin Graham

Kudos to Graham for defending his beliefs and Jesus Christ and hanging tough amidst his Biblically prophetic outright persecution.  Since when is it not OK to profess the Christian faith and belief? Maybe since Obama said, “We are no longer a Christian Nation“. More Graham:

He (Graham) said he doesn’t believe “all religions are equal” and that there is only “one way to God” — and that is through Jesus.

Asked if he still believes Islam is evil, he said: “I believe the way they treat women is evil, yes I do.” And, can he understand how some of his comments would be offensive to Muslims? “Oh, I’m sure,” he said. “But I find what they teach and what they preach and what’s on the Internet — I find that to be offensive, too.”

Another moment in the press conference, he said people shouldn’t be offended because it’s simply a disagreement in what people believe.

Last time I checked, Franklin Graham runs an organization for helping the poor, downtrodden, and abused.  They are active in Haiti, Chile, Nashville and more currently helping with disasters.   He comes from perhaps the most ethical of families but is persecuted for calling evil what it is.  Islam is not a religion of love and helping fellow man, but is an authoritative one of suppression, threats, and violence and one that condemns those who disagree with its tenets.

Franklin Graham prays for Muslims with whom he disagrees.  But in Islam, Graham is an infidel and worthy of death.  Can the contrast be any more stark?

More snapshots  of your country in the news including High Unemployment, Immorality, boycotts for border laws, Presidential power grabs, entitlements run amok and sports star and Hollywood depravity:

Of course, not all is lost in America.  I hold out great hope that the uprising of American patriots will turn back the tide of this assault on America.

But reality is reality and these headlines are but a snapshot in time of our country right now.  Would the founders even recognize us anymore?  Just ponder the thought and think/pray about what it is that you might be able to offer to our country to change it back to what it was meant to be.

Court won’t hear Scouts’ appeal in San Diego land rental case

From AP via OneNewsNow.com, Court won’t hear Scouts’ appeal.

The Supreme Court has let stand a ruling saying the Boy Scouts cannot lease city park land in San Diego because the group is a religious organization. The high court refused to hear an appeal from San Diego-area Boy Scouts.

The Boy Scouts maintain that they have no theology and only hold the position that children have a “duty to God” to become productive citizens……

…..The American Civil Liberties Union had sued San Diego and the Boy Scouts on behalf of a lesbian couple and an agnostic couple, each with Scouting-age sons.

What a country….espouse a duty to God and you are removed from a private rental agreement with the city government.

Espouse homosexuality as the “norm” or be confused as to the existence of God and your rights trump those of a group of patriotic, God-loving young men.

Our Constitution supports a free exercise of religion on public or private land….it does not give certain groups the right to deny that free exercise simply because they disagree.
