Well, now we know how much the Clintons have raised, stolen, shystered, “earned” over the last seven years since leaving the office of co-Presidency – $109 million?
The Sharp Right Turn “dictionary” has just updated the term Filthy Rich as it pertains to the Clintons:
- Old Definition of “Filthy Rich” – a tax-evading, commodities trader named Marc RICH married to socialite Denise RICH. Denise Rich, in her own right, gave large sums of money to Clinton and the Democrats in exchange for the waning-hours-in-office pardon given to her husband by Pres. Clinton.
- New Definition of “Filthy Rich” - a truth-evading couple in a “marriage of political convenience” waving around $109 million dollars earned by hook and crook (mostly the latter).
In summary, from the New York Times:
The bulk of their wealth has come from speaking and book-writing, which together account for almost $92 million, including a $15 million advance — larger than previously thought — from Mr. Clinton’s 2004 autobiography, “My Life.” The former president’s vigorous lecture schedule, where his speeches command upwards of $250,000, brought in almost $52 million.
During that time, the Clintons paid $33.8 million in federal taxes and claimed deductions for $10.2 million in charitable contributions. The contributions went to a family foundation run by the Clintons that has given away only about half of the money they put into it, and most of that was last year, after Mrs. Clinton declared her candidacy.
I thought the interesting piece here is that $10.2 million in charitable contributions went to the Clinton Foundation…so basically they gave the money to themselvers and received a tax break. And, ever the opportunists, the Clintons didn’t give any of the Foundation money away for charitable reasons until HIllary declared to run….isn’t that sweet?
You tell me if this is the “American Way”— A large portion of their money has come from relationships, partnerships and businesses the Clintons maintain by doing favors and then receiving substantial campaign donations in return:
Mr. Clinton’s partnership with Ronald W. Burkle, the billionaire investor and supermarket magnate, whose deals have included investing money for the government of Dubai and acquiring a stake in a Chinese media company. Burkle has helped fund Hillary’s Presidential campaign. More info here.
Bill Clinton’s relationship with CEO of InfoUSA - From NYPost.com, The relationship between Bill Clinton and Vinod “Vin” Gupta, InfoUSA’s CEO and chairman, is longstanding and deep. A frequent donor to Bill’s campaigns, Gupta stayed in the Lincoln Bedroom in the Clinton years. He admits donating $1 million to the Clinton Library and in 1999 gave $2 million for Hillary Clinton’s Millennium New Year’s Eve bash. He has raised over $200,000 for Hillary’s Senate campaigns and given thousands to other Democratic funds.
Let’s take a quick look at Hillary’s own words about “rich” people:
From FoxNews.com, on April 21, 2007 she said:
“Rich people didn’t make America great,” Clinton said. “It was the middle class who made this country great.”
All I can say about that is the Clinton’s did their fair share to minimize America’s greatness even when they weren’t “rich” and I am positive they will live up to Hillary’s standard (“rich people didn’t make America great”) now that they are “rich”.
